I ordered a physical copy only because Battle.net charges me 9.5% sales tax, so does Amazon, and Newegg doesn't. Also, Newegg had a $10-off sale a few weeks back. So in the end, I'm getting it for $49.99 instead of $66-ish.
Wheeeee, someone's been drinking.

Getting it free via the annual pass but also ordered a CE because I'm a sucker for such things.
I expect the first few days to be a lagfest but I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
Yeah, don't worry. Me and a few million of my friends will help get things sorted out for you "smart" ones during launch week.
I predict a few minor server issues, but then general stability. Yes, I can be an optimist sometimes.
The problem I had with this (otherwise sound) approach was I did NOT want to be sitting at work IF things were going smoothly. I'd rather gamble and lose that I can't play on the 15th but I can at least be home fuming about it, rather than not gamble and find myself at work while my friends are all telling me how awesome it is and getting an 8 hour jump on me. :)
I'm doing the normal routine approach. D3 is a long-term investment, so instead of chewing through as much as possible as early on as possible, I'm just going to go about my daily life as if everything is normal.
Except for some much later nights. For a long time.
I have it pre-loaded and ready to go, but it doesn't unlock until 4am for me, so no play until later on the 15th.
According to the Diablo III site: "For the Americas region, comprising the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and South East Asia, the game servers will go live at 12:01 a.m. PDT on May 15. As a reminder to our Latin American players, the digital version of Diablo III will go live on May 15, and the retail version will launch on June 7."
Guess im going to wake up a few hours early to go to work.
I haven't been able to find anything on their site promising release day delivery or anything, but it'll hopefully at least ship a day or two before release. Doesn't really matter to me though, I'll have people visiting at the same time so I wouldn't have much chance to play anyway.
Sure, but you can't actually play it (boxed or download copy) until it goes live on the blizzard servers.
Ugh, just checked my order for the CE at Amazon and somehow I ordered two-day delivery, now est to be 5/17. Those are going to be some long days if I can't find one sooner. I don't know if the in-game stuff and the soundtrack are going to be worth it in this case.
They will be worth the wait. I just double checked my order:
Amazon Prime: Release-Date Delivery is free
I would hop on a digital CE (obv not at the same price, maybe $70) but I just don't want more physical media. In fact I really don't want any physical game media anymore, it just adds to the clutter, except maybe books because I have a handy bookshelf.
Well, with the CE there is also the small matter of the Diablo shaped skull and soulstone USB stick ;) Can't fit those in a binder :p
No matter how many times I click the "Agree" button it doesn't start installing.
I'm gonna Cartman this bitch, unless I get a call from myself from the future saying not to do it.
Ill run the installer once, the night before just to make sure it is up-to-date. Then Ill run it in the morning while I make breakfast. I am taking Wednesday to Friday off that week. I sure hope they work out most of their issues that Tuesday. It might be a bit risky taking vacation time that close to release, I sure hope Blizzard has their ducks in a row. From what I remember the D2 launch was only shaky for like a day and a half.
The installer isn't unlocked yet.
You can't install the game until 8:01am PDT on May 14th.
Launch Day Preparation Guide
I think he knows that, but he's doing so anyway in a vein hope of it actually doing something. :)
I'm glad they're allowing installation the day before. My new SSD should be arriving this week, so I should have a clean install of Windows and a fast drive ready to roll when the 15th comes around.
You actually shouldn't slap people, in case you didn't know about that either.
To be honest, I didn't know about the installer not working until 8am PST on the 14th, and the article was posted just today so I actually did think I was telling everyone something they didn't know. :)
It was definitely news to me - so thanks!
That was news to me too. Cool bananas.
Stop encouraging him!
