Damn it, I just bought this again through Steam since I never played the Reboot version. I mean, I'm only out $5, but still.
Can't wait to see the pretty-pretty and, more importantly, the new content.
I almost edited to note the difference between European and Asian quirkiness, but I thought I could get away without explaining it.
I'm sure the French or something have created some odd console games too. SR2, especially considering the gameplay, is another level. There's a difference between preferring a console controller and hoping the game becomes a console release.
Oh please, Tim. It's a bullshit distinction and you know it.
I guess I must be the only one who is not hyped by this. I love SR2, but this seems like a massive asset recycling endeavour that should have been sold as expansion for 5 or 10 bucks.
I recommend it highly. Assuming you have access to a PS2 anyway.
But to get back to my point, of course consoles can do weird and quirky. It's bizarre to claim otherwise. That's not to say a console can do everything a pc can, or do it well. You mentioned that console gamers may not like the turn-based stuff. Well, that may be a valid point. But this game seems like a thing that could work out well on a console. Not as well as Space Pirates and Zombies probably, but that's another discussion.
You're no fun, Tim.
This is likely a stepping stone to SR3. I bet you it's already in the works.
Then I hope Katauri Interactive is working on it.
Oh ok, I see my mistake now. You're one of those guys. You'll pick up a console game when they pry the keyboard + mouse from your cold, dead hands. I didn't know folks like you still walked the earth. All right, it's cool. Not like getting Space Rangers on a console was likely to happen anyway.
Of course we would love and prefer SR3 but meanwhile, an expanded SR2 will be nice.
Eh, I dunno. What kind of sequel could one really make to this game that an expansion pack doesn't solve? Attempting to do it in 3D wouldn't really add anything to the game without taking away from the nature of its combat unless it had a thick budget backing it up. It's also not easy making assets that are randomized working so cleanly as they do in SR2.
Ultimately I think an update on the interface could help. I always found it a bit troublesome getting the trade information I wanted and traveling fast enough for that information to still be relevant. Comparing ship equipment was also pretty tiresom.I never regretted my purchase decision on SR2 but the vast amount of stuff in the game kept me from getting very far in it.
I'm pretty excited about Space Rangers HD. I got a lot of enjoyment out SR2 / SR2 Reboot.
I even liked the RTS portions. Something about the combo of the "main" game, RTS, and text adventures helped to mix things up for me and keep the game fresh for a very long time, indeed.
Update on the UI would be nice. Is it still the fact that if you get a rocket launcher as your starting bonus you're pretty much unstoppable? More balance passes seem like they would be a good thing - seems like every time I try to play the thing, I will usually end up in what seems like a nice ship with decent armament, and then lose the first fight I attempt in a civilian sector.
Or am I confusing it with the X series? That always happens there too.
Nice to see there are still people playing this game... I absolutely adore it. Shame the third one didn't see the light. "Star Time" I hear it would have been called.
Since there's rereleasing the this one in "HD", I wouldn't be surprised if a third one is on the way.
This is what it says in the Q&A:
Q: Are you so out of fresh ideas that you’re going to sell the same game third time already? Isn’t there already a free expansion pack with HD-patch?
A: We’ve always wanted to work on SR franchise, and when 1C Publishing gave us the green light, we happily agreed. And no, “A War Apart” isn’t the same “Revolution” made by some of SNK-Games’ employees back in 2009.
AND MORE IMPORTANTLY:
Q: How about full-scale sequel? How about Space Rangers 3?
A: That’s something you should ask owner of the Space Rangers franchise – 1C Publishing company.

Is there a non-impulse/gamefly DD version of Space Rangers 2:Reboot that works with Resfix (which steam apparently doesn't?) and the partial SR2: Revolution translation?
Hey guys, I just noticed that it doesn't seem that one can no longer purchase Space Rangers 2 like, anywhere. It's no longer on Steam, GOG, GamersGate or GameStop/Impulse. Can anyone else look and see if it's just me?
Whoa, how the heck did I miss that? I wonder if that's in prep for the HD version coming out hopefully soon? Weird.
K, I just emailed the contact for Excalibur Publishing for more info, if possible. This is very odd.
