    Best alternative to NERO

I have 3 people I'm going to b working with who want DVD/movie making software that's comparable to what NERO can do. I'm extremely hesitant to suggest NERO with the crap they pulled when ver7 was released.

Is there an alternative to NERO out there? Or has NERO totally cleaned up its act and taken the bloat/crash out of its products?

    Thanks for the help!

I like DeepBurner. Fast and no extraneous bells and whistles, and it sounds Lovecraftian.

I personally like Nero, but I received ULead DVD MovieFactory 6 (sold by Corel) as a gift and it seems to be able to do more than Nero (based on what I read). Even has built in Blu-ray tools (unlike Nero). I can't, however, comment on how well it works, since I have used Nero exclusively.

Computer Power User magazine seems to recommend Ashampoo.

I forgot to mention the primary things they want to do are as follows:

    * Slideshow of digital pictures set to music and burning to DVD
    * Taking sections of digital video from recorder and making contiguous film - then burning to DVD

Mostly sentimental type stuff so they need something easy.
