    Coffee vs. Alcohol

If you had to pick one or the other for the rest of your life, which would it be?

Well, for you, that would depend on which end he put it in, wouldn't it?

The question is MOOT! Coffee is necessary for morning bootstrapping!

Alcohol is necessary for weekend defragging and system cleanup.

Living without either would be uncivilized.

You can substitute tea for coffee but I can't think of a good, legal alcohol substitite.

I don't drink coffee much. I prefer a couple of cold Diet Cokes in the morning for my caffeine.

I think part of coffee's popularity in an office setting is that it gives you an excuse to get out of your cube for a few minutes. When I was a tech writer I would top off a cold cup of coffee periodically just to stretch my legs.

Oh, those mid-afternoon caffeine crashes, though. They were miserable.

What do you mean when you say caffeine crash?

I ask because I'm not a caffeine junkie but I had a miserable experience with it once. I drank a cup of coffee one morning (on an empty stomach) and, as I guess can be the case with coffee, one cup quickly turned into another and another and before I knew it I'd drunk an entire pot.

I remember being incredibly jittery and disoriented, almost as though drunk, but a different kind of drunk - certainly I would have been just as dangerous behind the wheel of a car as if I'd drunk the equivalent amount of strong beer - and also bizarrely paranoid. I remember being convinced that there was somebody at the door time after time, but there never was. It was a scary experience and I couldn't wait for it to pass. I eventually called a friend in LA who was a big-time coffee junkie and he correctly guessed all my symptoms before suggesting I eat a whole bunch of protein. Lo and behold, one can of tuna later I was all better.

Caffeine crashes happen when the caffeine buzz has worn off. They made me feel incredibly tired and sleepy for 20-30 minutes. I think it has something to do with eating lunch, also.

If your caffeine has sugar in it that just exacerbates the effect.

A nice Shiraz or a cold bottle of Bohemia are my choices.

My personal favorite is a rare import called Free Beer, but if it came down to it I guess I would stick with my moning cup 'o joe.

Slowly, DrCrypt's absinthe addiction crept its way into the Quarter to Three pantheon, where it would sit proudly next to Bruce Geryk's homosexuality and Tom Chick's beret. The bravery of Brian Koontz was sure to follow.

We need a third option. I don't drink either one, so I guess I would live on water the rest of my life (obviously if alcohol and/or coffee is available, water would have to available as well).

If I could voted for tea, I would have, but coffee it is: no matter how much of it I drink, it never keeps me awake or makes me jittery. Though sometimes when I'm a really dirty coffee drunk, I can FEEL the caffeine in my body, coursing through my veins, throbbing in my mind like a second heart and I know that all is well with the world: black coffee to match a black mind. Mmm, delicious.

But tea is better. I bet you can't guess what type of tea! :D

Morning: Coffee as strong as they make it here in our office. I think the can says 10W-30 on it.

A friend just turned me on to Shiraz recently, I have become very partial to the flavor and found myself sucking down half bottles at a time instead of the glass I should have had. :D

That's the problem with Shiraz, it's very easy to drink an entire bottle.

After crashing into my bed with one bite out of an Arby's sandwich still in my mouth and the rest sitting on the counter in the bathroom at 3:00am, I would definitely rather have coffee.

    Alcohol, my permanent accessory
    Alcohol, a party time necessity
Alcohol, alternative to feeling like yourself
O Alcohol, I still drink to your health.

Which part or was it just the whole unpleasant picture?

I met my wife of 7 years at 1:00am at a bar while slightly enebriated, so I cannot really say it does not, on occasion, serve a higher purpose.

    Drinking tip:

    When consuming

do NOT attempt to shove the bottle into your forehead after drinking. There is no evil in there for you to lock away.
