    Hancock

Just got back from what they said was the first test screening of this (I bet you say that to all your test audiences.)

I think most anything I would say would be spoilerish, so I'll leave it at this:
much better than I expected. I was pleasantly surprised.

Caveat: free movies are always better!

Please tell me just ONE thing:

He says "Aw hell no!" at some point in the movie.

Bummer for one moment thought someone had made a movie about Tony Hancock :(

    Classic bleak comedy.

Excellent. I've been looking forward to this one since the last thread with the trailer.

Friend of a friend saw an early screening of this and says it's not at all what the trailer depicts. Apparently it's very dark, very violent, not at all kid friendly, and she really doesn't know what the mainstream audience is going to think of it.

Looks like a lot more of the original script story was left intact than anyone thought. Consider my interest renewed.

Is it a dark comedy, or are the comedic moments pretty much limited to the trailer?

It isn't a dark comedy unless they cut a lot of what was in the screening I saw. That version had comedy, action, and 'drama' I guess, relationships and such. Some of that comedy is juvenile/grossly inappropriate for children (particularly one gag which I hope is cut) and definitely will never be in a trailer. Some of it is Disney-ish.

I wouldn't call it dark at all, but maybe I've been numbed by too many 'superhero gone bad' comic books. I think the X-men movies were more dark.

The IMDB plot outline is spoilerific and misleading at the same time.

To be fair, I don't know a whole lot about said person's taste in movies, so what she considers "dark" may be wildly different from what a bunch of comic geeks like us would consider dark.

The BBC did make a programme about him a couple of weeks back, Hancock and Joan. I'm assuming it's the same team who did the superb Kenneth Williams programme a few months back. Frankie Howerd is next week.

So -- recalcitrant sports hero metaphor? Unfortunately the CGI looks pretty bad, but I'll see it for the Bateman.

Looks fun, in a lightweight sort of way. I'll see it.

If they keep it dark, violent and not kid friendly, it could be good. Knowing Will Smith's mainstream image would take a hit from that kind of movie, we can assume most of that will be cut and lots of crappy one liners will be inserted.

I read online that they've taken out the scene that was most inappropriate, IMO. I don't want to post as a spoiler though, in case that report was incorrect. PM if you want to know.

The new trailer makes it look better, but it still seems like the plot is "ornery superhero learns to behave like every Will Smith character ever."

What happens when he gets lucky with the romantic interest? Does she show up later in a wheelchair?

I believe that relates to the aforementioned cut scene. In the original script he blew her spine out when he ejaculated.

They cut that? But test audiences must have adored it!

I saw Woody Allen's Hollywood Ending at a free screening, and it still sucked! I can't imagine how much worse it would have been had I paid for the ticket.

Well, since you went there.....in the first test screening, his ejaculate penetrates the roof of his abode like 20 mm rounds three times, which I find retarded as a comic book nerd because it is inconsistent because his exhalations don't have any power (and presumably his urination doesn't drill into the earth's crust, which would make him all too easy to find several times a day).

Most superheroes/villains who have special breath attacks breathe normally most of the time. Presumably they can control how powerful they want it to be. Maybe Hancock could do super urination if he wanted to. He just loses control when he ejaculates.

Also, most men have reasonable control over their breathing and even urination. Few men can exercise control over the ejaculatory response.

I think the "super ejaculation" meme, while silly in a Mallrats sorta way, would've been an awesome inclusion in the movie. Blowing out a character's spine might be a little tacky and horrific, but it couldn't hurt to have her sent to the ER with a bruised cervix or something.

It hardly requires super powers to do that.

Perhaps in a different movie. It just didn't fit this one at all.

There are 9 reviews of this on RT, and it has a 33% rating. Hmm.

The Southpark guys did the super ejaculation thing years ago. I don't need to see it in a movie.
