What mod or version of Civ 4 is that?
And yes that is a financial civ on a random map.

Won't all that bonus gold go away as soon as you put in plantations? I thought financial gave a bonus only to spots with 2 gold... But yes, it is a pretty nice little plot. I guess I could ask for a river and one or two more hills, though, oh and maybe some cows and horses, a gold mine, and ocean view.... :)
Iron Working FTW!

Nice! Hope you have lots of workers...
Get thyself a Granary, stat!
For the future, consider building more cities, instead of going for a wonder like the great wall right off the bat. You'll benefit more by getting 4 cities up and running (with some workers!) than you will defending one city...unless this is a single city challenge.
Civ games are all about grabbing territory as quickly as you can - it's far easier to settle land by putting a settler down than it is to take land from someone else later. The only limit to expansion is not stifling your econ...but you can easily do 3-4 cities even on prince+ before that happens...and the resources (food, luxury) you capture will help all your cities out.
It's not the first city he's got -- you can see the connection in the upper right. Plus, you'd see the Great Wall in the building list on the left if it was his only one.
The Great Wall is a popular early wonder for the AI, I've noticed, so if I don't want to deal with any barbarians, I make it a priority. It and Stonehenge are always the first two I see, usually Stonehenge a few turns before.
He has at least five cities, based on the minimap. Also, the great wall is a favorite for several strategies because it allows you to pop a very early great spy. Since it's cheaper to steal techs than to research them, this allows you to be highly competitive with your military while also maintaining tech parity. For a while after BTS launched, it was a top tier wonder -- I'm not sure if it's been beaten out by other wonders, because I'm no longer active in the Civ community, but I still find it highly useful.
I find that it helps to think of Civ as a toy, rather than a game, and not to focus on winning. But if you do want to win, I highly recommend building several warriors at the start and looking for a target. Having two starting areas under your control is a massive advantage. Just make sure that you've got a 3 to 1 (or better) advantage before attacking a city.
