There's all of 12 episodes between the two shows?
Hey, MacGuyver is on TV Land right now! Jeez, this takes me back... why ever did they take this show off the air?
Oh yeah, that's right. It was shit.
(BTW, why do they never show AUTOMAN or MANIMAL on any of these retro-graveyard stations? I'd love to gets me some of that rerun action!)
There's all of 12 episodes between the two shows?
All-day marathon, baby!
Gary, don't forget "Street Hawk."
Personally, I'm on the look-out for reruns of "The Phoenix" with Judson Scott, and "Otherworld," about the All-American family in a station wagon that gets sucked into another dimension. I probably only caught about 20 minutes of each show back when they aired. Oh yeah, and "Bring 'Em Back Alive" with Bruce Boxleitner, since I can't remember if it was better than "Tales of the Gold Monkey." Sure, it was all crap, but at least it's familiar crap.
AIRWOLF or BLUE THUNDER?
Discuss.
Gotta go with the old Wolfie, if only because the music was so funky that it spawned the most expensive TV soundtrack in history. That and the way they somehow managed to pack about 200 missiles under the back seat.
Airwolf, Airwolf all the way. :)Originally Posted by Gary Whitta
Airwolf just looked cooler. Plus it had that missle rack that came out from under the copter, how cool was that? Blue Thunder just looked like a big Apache helicopter. Plus Blue Thunder had that silly stealth mode ... look if we just push this button, no one can hear our helicopter ... sure that sounds believable.
Plus as an added bonus, Airwolf had Jean Bruce Scott who I thought was hot!
But BLUE THUNDER had Dana Carvey and Bubba Smith.
Yeah, and Airwolf would be wiping the floor with enemies like Soviet MiG fighter jets and U.S. Navy warships, and BT would be fighting what, drug dealers in beat-up cars? :D
Wow, I have no recollection of Dana Carvey on Blue Thunder -- did he play things straight or was he his usual self? I guess I mostly remember the movie and don't remember the TV show at all. Anyway, I take Jean Bruce Scott over Dana or Bubba any day of the week. :wink:Originally Posted by Gary Whitta

I'll give AIRWOLF props for its theme music (brilliant!), but the helicopter looked like a commercial chopper with some bits added on. Not very impressive.
Also, Ernest Borgnine annoyed me.
"Hey, String!"
*sigh*
Quick, somebody make a funny about me giving AIRWOLF props before I have time to edit the above post.
Okay, I'm with you on that. Ernest Borgnine could definitely be annoying.Originally Posted by Gary Whitta

Aww man, why'd you have to bring up "Firebirds." The only good scene was Nic Cage in the simulator screaming about how he was the greatest.
And that scene wasn't all that good. Yeesh what a painful movie to watch.Originally Posted by Albert Woo
I'm sure I saw footage of an Apache doing a loop in one of those military hardware shows circa 1992. Well, it was more like a very quick tumble, but they called it a loop.Originally Posted by ydejin
I certainly wouldn't want to be in the front seat when they try that.
Ba-ba-da-ba-ba, ba-da-ba-ba, ba-da-ba-ba-ba-de-bum.
Does anybody know if anybody has sampled the Airwolf soundtrack for a rap song yet? How Many Wanna is still Ja Rule's best song, and Fire It Up is real high on Busta Rhymes' best-of-list.
Anyway, Airwolf is sadly forgotten today. People know Knight Rider and The A-Team, but nobody remembers Airwolf.
Come on, they had an awesome helicopter based in a volcano! And they always solved crimes by using the missile launcher and their 'go-real-fast' mode. Except for that one shitty episode on the cruise ship with no helicopter climax. Ugh.
Oh, and MacGyver is reputedly being turned into a movie, with some scuttlebut I heard being that Richard Dean Anderson would have a small role and the main character would be a new MacGyver, like a relative or somebody.
I always preferred A-team to Airwolf. Now that was quality entertainment. Lots of guns firing, but no one ever got hit by a bullet. And you could always depend on atleast on car crash each episode.
Airwolf taught me important life lessons. Like, there is no problem that can't be solved with an attack helicopter.Originally Posted by Gary Whitta
I miss the old Logan's Run series.
Definitely Airwolf though I did enjoy the Blue Thunder movie...
Ok, dredging up shows best left buried, how about Man from Atlantis and Quark? My sister liked to swim like our Atlantean hero.
It hasn't been completely forgotten, as it's been out on R2 DVD for a while. But yeah, "The A-Team" was a huge hit back when it was on, so it's no surprise people still remember it. "Knight Rider" still somehow manages to cling onto the national sub-conscious, mostly as part of the punchline to the joke that was/is David Hasselhoff's career. (Actually, while not much of an actor or singer, Hasselhoff seems to be a shrewd businessman, considering how much he's made from "Baywatch.")Originally Posted by Ben
That's for sure. Abusive husband or boyfriend? Bring in Airwolf. Shady accountants cooking the books? Bring in Airwolf. Lost your dog? That's right, Airwolf.Originally Posted by Ben Sones
Actually it was an attempt at a "next generation" type series featuring a teen MacGuyver who was supposed to be RDA's nephew. They shot a pilot, the network canned it. Consider yourselves lucky.Originally Posted by Ben

Hey, if the US started searching for "stuff that MacGyver could use to make WMD", then they'd have an easy job :)Originally Posted by Timemaster Tim

Nothing is more Airwolf than Airwolf.
As for Manimal and Automan, SciFi tends to show them at completely random times every few monts on weekdays in a block of about six episodes. And Automan ... well ... Automan makes Tron look like the Matrix.
I liked Voyagers. I guess a revival with the original cast is out of the question with Jon Erick Hexum shooting himself in the head with a blank.
That's because it was.Originally Posted by Gary Whitta

I'm sure they did it just because it looked cool, but the internally mounted weapons were certainly ahead of their time. I don't think Airwolf did many loops, more like Hammerheads. (Same thing w/Firebirds.)
One of a few things Firebirds got right: At the end when their forward base gets attacked, as soon as the first mortar shell hits, Nick Cage and Tommy Lee Jones ("...that's what I want you to be, an all American hero cooking full tilt boogie for freedom and justice.") immediately sprint for their choppers. As opposed to something like Independence Day, where they show a pilot climbing out of his cockpit and running away as the airfield gets strafed.
