    Novalogic, what happened?

Just curious if anyone has heard anything coming out of Novalogic. After the success of Joint Ops I assumed they would've kept their development house busy with new content but all they've done is milk the hell out of every title they've made in the past 7 years by repackaging them under new names and box art.

I had always thought that they were in a great position to do a combined arms MMOG similar to Planetside only with current military tech. Hopefully it's still a possibility.

Huh. Now that you mention it, I hadn't thought about Novalogic in at least a year.

I suspect internal turmoil with attempting to get on top of next-gen console platforms.

Speaking of Joint Ops, does anyone still play it online? I picked up a copy dirt-cheap a while back, but haven't gotten around to installing it - and, well, not much point in doing so if no one's playing it now, is there?

Looks like Novalogic's last couple of releases were its Black Hawk Down console ports; before that, their remake of the first Delta Force game 2 1/2 years ago. I don't see any recent announcements about upcoming games, however.

I heard from multiple people who had previously worked there that NovaLogic is an insanely bad place to work -- crazy management (cameras everywhere), extremely low pay, extremely high employee turnover, etc.

I am not surprised that they have basically disappeared off of the radar...

I actually loved Comanche 4 (which threw out the voxel crap, ran smoothly, and offered simplified, FPS-style control options), which I got in bargain bins years ago, and had some of the more interesting missions I'd experienced in military shooters, but they had long put all their focus into FPS stuff. I didn't like DF: Black Hawk Down the game, but I really liked its missions and wished they'd have used a better game engine for it.

They haven't put out a press release in about two years now, so I'd be curious too if they're really still in business or not.

With about 3 minutes of googling, I found some screen shots of their next yet unnamed game

Yeah, Novalogic always seemed to be in their own little world and several years behind the times. Still, J.O. was the first game of theirs that I truly enjoyed.

Thanks for the info Rob. I also found the following info in that same thread:

From a anonymous source, within the NovaLogic developing staff we have recieved the following information regarding their new game(series).

    * New game series name: The Unit
    * First game: The Unit; Operation Acid Gambit
    * Totally new engine
    * Game will be developed with new animation software
    * Games will be based of the TV show "The Unit"
    * Based on all the mistakes that the DF team has had and you are supposed to change history
    * News release to the public is right now scheduled for Sept. of this year

Joint Ops is a great game. I must install it again sometime. Hopefully they are still running some servers.

Still plenty of games going on but, man, the renderer has NOT aged well at all.

Their renderers were always ancient and their AI sucked but for some reason I still loved the Delta Force series of games.
