Cue guitar thrashing Halo music and Mountain Dew merchandising tie in here.
You know you want some teabag. Likely everyone on your friends list will be playing this anyway . . . let's make it official. Play with your whiney adult friends, not with the whiney 12 year olds. Hear inventive and well thought out curses rather than "faggot" over and over. I mean, if you play Halo 3 with the Qt3 crowd, at least you'll get to hear "Sweargen! Cocksucka!" in a bad Chinese accent.
Or maybe we have have the world's first civilized console multiplayer game.
Who's in, me brothers?
Now's your chance to put a plasma grenade on ELGUAPODC's ass!

I'm probably in for this, but if Whitta plays I wanna be on his team because he talks funny.
I just hope that I have my gay helmet (which is small, not big) and the contents inside it in time.
I'll be on. Hell, I'll be on daytime tomorrow - I'm telecommuting to work on Tuesday.
Since I'm currently "between jobs" I'll be on all day tomorrow, and let's not kid ourselves... nobody's playin' anything else for the next week or so.
Shoot me an invite anytime!
I'm in for Weds. I have to work tomorrow night though.
I'll be there. Do we just use the vanilla Friends list, or does Bungie have some other sort of matchmaking system (I dimly recall they had some other kind of community setup going on during the Beta, which I didn't play).
I'm probably in for Wednesday.
Bungie's latest update is probably relevant here:
take a look at this:
http://www.bungie.net/News/content.a...news&cid=12802
It's a bungie update that details how multiplayer works in Halo 3. It's basically all just like it was in the beta. You earn both ranking in individual game types, and experience (EXP). There are ranked playlists and social playlists. In Ranked Playlists, you can't hear your opponents. So you can't trash talk. I guess the only way to trash talk in Ranked games is to hump their corpses. :P
In social playlists, you can also earn ranking apparently, though this paragraph is a bit vague:
" And if you're working on your Rating, you're still welcome here—Social Playlists do award XP for wins, though to attain the higher Ratings you will need to prove yourself and earn the required minimum skill level in a Ranked Playlist."
So I'm not sure what that means exactly.
The Ranked Gametypes are:
Lone Wolves - 5 person FFA.
Typical Games: Slayer, Oddball, Crazy King
Team Slayer - 4v4 deathmatch
Typical Games: Team Slayer, Team Shotty Snipers
Team Objective - 4v4 team games
Typical Games: One Flag CTF, Territories, One Sided VIP
Team Tactical - 4v4 - you each get 5 lives
Typical Games: Eliminatio, Eliminatio Snipers
Team Doubles - 2 vs 2 slayer
Typical Games: Team Slayer, VIP
The Social Playlists are:
Rumble Pit - 6 player FFA
Typical Games: Slayer, Mosh Pit, Hammerzeit
Social Slayer - 4 v 4 or 5 v 5 team slayer
Typical Games: Team Slayer, Team Rockets
Social Skirmish - 4v4 or 5v5 skirmish games
Typical Games: Multi Flag CTF, Neutral Bomb Assault, Territories
Big Team Battle
6v6 team slayer and team skirmish at launch, once they figure out who the good hosts are, up to 8 players per side will be available.
Typical Games: Team Slayer, VIP, Multi Flag CTF
Multi Team - 4 teams of 2 players each
Typical Games: Team Slayer, VIP, King of the Hill
Social Doubles - 2v2
Typical Games: Team Slayer, VIP, Flag Rally
So I'm guessing I'm going to jump into some ranked games first, and then I can move to the social playlists later once we've reached some kind of minimum rank and proved ourselves? Something like that. I'm looking forward to it.
I think what it's saying is that you can move up ranks if you play Social, but you have to also have a certain amount of ranked experience to move up to the higher ranks via Social play.Originally Posted by Rock8man
I like how they are only allowing 6v6 big team battles to start off with, until they get a huge repository of players who are good hosts, and then they plan to up the limit to 8 players on each side. Big Team battles in Halo 2 were almost unplayable sometimes because the host clearly couldn't handle a 16 player game. A lot of people have broadband with upload speeds pretty close to dialup.
This will be the least restrictive, most social game setting it can be, i.e. not ranked. Ranked games are typically not very fun, IMHO.
Anyway, if you do not have me on your friend's list, send an invite (with some text or voice about being from QT3) to ELGUAPODC.
Really, I'm imagining we are going to have plenty of people, so the more the merrier. What's the largest game type there is, I wonder? 6 vs. 6?
I'll set it to "only friends may join" if that's an option, if not, just send me an invite if you see me online (and it says I'm playing a multiplayer game).
Remember this has the super cool party system where you move from game to game as a group, so no need to muck with friends only stuff really. We can setup a party and do ranked, get enough people and switch to social and it will move us all even if there are 10 of us going to a 6v6 game. Ranked you are limited to being on one side with a party but social you can fill out both sides. At least that was how it worked in the Beta.
I think we must also totally mess around with Forge, no not me, the editor.
Yeah, 6 vs 6 will be the largest game type at launch.
If we have less people than that though, do consider ranked matches at some point. Remember, ranked matches are the ones where you can't hear the opposing team. So if we have enough to form a Qt3 team, playing other teams, then a ranked match might actually be a more fun way to go. We'll only be able to hear each other, and I don't think any of us here are going to be saying anything juvenile.
However, I think most of the time we play together, we'll probably have too many players to play a ranked match anyway, since ranked matches don't allow you to have more players than can fit on one team. Whereas in social matches, you can play against one another.
I'll be around. Demon G Sides set up a group back in beta for Qt3 folks: http://www.bungie.net/Fanclub/116859...GroupHome.aspx
Feel free to send a join request
I'll be on. Well, assuming I can find a copy. I didn't pre-order, and the guy at Gamestop said I wouldn't be able to find one until after Christmas as a result! Man, I sure hope that doesn't happen.
So anyway, yeah, I'll be on.
OK so no one wants to do co-op huh? Huh huh huh? Huh.
I'll be doing co-op for sure, but with my RL friends.Originally Posted by RepoMan
I'll be Co-Oping on Tuesday...
I'm down for any form of multiplayer Halo.
Yep, Tuesday and Wednesday during the day is for power co-op on the couch.
I'll be picking this up early tomorrow morning, and I've got only one class all day, also in the morning. I should be home around noon Eastern and ready to do some Halo 3 co-op if anyone else is interested in starting up an full co-operative campaign game to just grind it out with me. I do wonder how the co-op works with Achievements. Is only the person playing the Master Chief scoring them?
As for the multiplayer night on Wednesday, well, I was going to be making up for all the studying I'm not going to be doing tomorrow, but perhaps not.
Hell, I'm ashamed to admit it, but I may even get sucked into a midnight launch thingie. I did with Halo 2, and I hadn't preordered. I just strolled into an EBGames at around 12:20AM and strolled out five minutes later with my copy. I figure I can do that again. I will, however, only do it this time if I know there's someone else who wants to put in a few hours playing co-op just past midnight tonight.
I'm pretty sure I'll be on tonight as of 9pm Eastern time, which is when I assume the servers get switched on. I'll be trying to work off some of the suck before the rest of you guys start playing.

Why would they flip the switch early? I suppose they might want to bring things up early to make sure that the servers are working before the midnight sales people start pouring online, but three hours early? Is that likely? And who will you be playing with? People who got their hands on it early and aren't Qt3 folks? In other words, just the kind of folks you really don't want to be playing with.Originally Posted by TomChick
Oh, and I'm taking your "review" to heart, which is really why the only way I want to do the campaign is co-op, if I can help it. At least that should add something fun to what sounds pretty bland.
I want to beat the campaign solo before I do much co-op (or at least get ahead of the curve).
But I am so down for some MP games. Wednesday night sounds good, though probably won't be on until fairly late (Kara night in WoW).
I'll be looking for some post-midnight-madness games tonight though!
Dadgummit, I meant 9pm Pacific time, which is midnight Eastern time. You can imagine the confusion when I fly across time zones. And going to Arizona? Forget it. Too much math.
As for co-op, there are some achievements related to getting these named "skulls". I have no idea what that means, but I'm pretty sure it's enough to get me playing co-op.
-Tom
If it's like Halo 2, they're items hidden in the levels (most only on Legendary difficulty), and they enable various gameplay changes which mainly make the game even harder. (E.g., all enemies get camoflauge; your shield only regens when you melee enemies)Originally Posted by TomChick
(Edit: Looking at the achievement list, all of these ones will be present in Normal difficulty.)

Fuck. I didn't need to know that. I'm totally a sucker for that kind of thing.
*sigh* I guess I'm going to be replaying the single player campaign...

Video game rental service shows my Halo 3 as shipped so I might be able to make it for some action on wensday.
