Could he be a DH somewhere? That always seemed like an awesome gig.
So the usual sources are saying that Barry Bonds has posted on his website that the Giants will not be bringing him back next season. No surprise, really.
What's next for Bond? Can anyone think of a team that would dare sign him, especially as he will presumably demand something north of $15m/season?
I have to think he's done.

You have the title wrong, it's the Giants that are done with Barry, not the other way around.
I'm kinda irritated about it, if I'd know this would have been his last season I would have made sure to go to a game. Ah well.
I guess you could read it that way. Not my intent. I wrote it thinking it as more of a generic statement than trying to suggest one side or another made the decision. As my post says, I realize that SF let Bonds go.Originally Posted by Athryn
As for Bonds as a DH, he could do it but the question is what team would be interested in the baggage and constant boos he got everywhere but SF. Then throw in likely high salary demands, and I don't see an AL team being all that interested.
Someone with a short right-field porch will happily pony up for Barry's DH services next season. If only there was a team in the AL that had a notoriously short right field fence and notoriously deep pockets and notoriously spent money on over-the-hill superstars.
Did you guys hear who Sally is going to the prom with?
Presumably not with you, hence the decades-long anti-sports grudge?
Well, this belongs in another thread, but I went to prom with a bisexual model. I don't see how that's relevant here.
Besides, there are sports that I like. Your theory? Invalid!
You just shit in NFL and MLB threads? I had you pegged for a cliched anti-sports gamer geek. My bad, carry on!
asshole

I see....pinstripes in Barry's future, if he wants to play next year.
You think Bonds could survive the New York media? The guy could barely handle the media in SF and Pittsburgh.Originally Posted by triggercut
With the Mercury News and Chronicle, I'm not sure the Bay Area media are exactly cupcakes. If Barry could win them over, he can handle New York. What, they're gonna boo him in The Bronx? Will that be new for him?Originally Posted by Sarkus
There's a big difference between the media attention in SF, where the fans remained loyal to Bonds, and New York with it's competing tabloid media. Even Bonds admitted that he tired of the media attention he got as he approached breaking the record this season and it would be like that every day in New York, but for no other reason than that he's Bonds.
I also don't think the Yankees GM wants to hassle with all but obviously Steinbrenner could always overrule him. However, I tend to believe the suggestion that Steinbrenner is too ill to care anymore because even the Steinbrenner of a few years ago would never have been as quiet as he's been this year.

Lots of talk about the Angels taking a look at Bonds for the DH spot next season. Then there's Oakland. No one has mentioned the Yankees. They have a bit of a logjam at the DH spot.
