tbh i'd pay that for just TF2 the amount of fun it is giving me and that Portal game intrigues me.Originally Posted by Anti-Bunny

Just saw the commercial for this, and wow, they picked an awesome scene for Half Life 2, and Portal. TF2 was just Heavy Weapons Guy firing.

New update released, that paged pool memory is meant to be the scourge of the sound loop - lets just see :)
* Fixed certain crashes with paged pool memory
* Added a warning for when paged pool memory is low
* Fixed some prediction errors with player avoidance
* Fixed columns and row bunching up in server browser
* Fixed a rare bug where the wrong launcher.dll was being used to launch the game
* Fixed teleporter/spawn doorway exploit
Does, er, anyone recall what the original value was for the registery DWORD we changed? PagedPoolSize - I changed it to 1 and it fixed the sound loop issue. Would it have been 0 before?
lol my thoughts exactly - what the heck should it be normally.Originally Posted by Pentadact

Circuit City ad for October 7 shows PC version of Orange Box on sale this week for $37.99 (along with Quake Wars: ET and the one you've all been waiting for, The Settlers: Rise of An Empire)
Friday night, we threw a LAN party at the office just for TF2. To my surprise (and great satisfaction), we actually had 25 people who pre-ordered the game, and we went from 4PM until 4AM. We lost about half the crowd a little after midnight, so we ended up taking a 12-man team onto public servers and continued to tear it up. Even Chet joined our squad for a bit and engaged in some impressive backstabbery.
This, and really the last few weeks of TF2, easily rank among the most fun I've had with multiplayer gaming over the past few years. As far as I'm concerned, TF2 could be $50 on its own and I'd already have my money's worth out of it.
Holy shit, that's hardcore. Can't have been easy getting twelve guys on the same side on a public server, though. I'm really Jonesing for a party system where my friends and I can all jump into a game on the same team. It could even just be a passive feature of autobalance, where it'll prefer to keep people who have each other on their friends lists on the same team.
Speaking of hardcore, I just got my Hardcore achievement for 1000 kills. Also my sniper achievement, 25 headshots. Woot!
Agreed 100%. I have Quake Wars sitting here and I honestly don't know if I'll ever get around to it - how can there possibly be time when there's TF2 to be had?Originally Posted by sluggo
This game rules.
I fucking fell out of my chair when I called for a medic as the Pyro.
Actually, it wasn't too bad. We just yelled across the room for everyone to go blue, and when each match started, we just kept clicking the blue door as other people joined red. Occasionally, autobalance would kick someone over to the red team, but then they'd spectate and wait for the sides to even up so they could go blue. We kept the team pretty intact for a few hours.Originally Posted by Pentadact
It would indeed be an awesome feature where the game would recognize that you're on a team with 3-6 people on your friends list and weight that into the autobalance algorithm.
Fuck, I knew I should have just kept this thread unread. I was hoping I could just happily go on playing Halo for a while and forget the Orange Box even existed, but you're not making this easy.Originally Posted by sluggo
Halo 3 has the great party system. TF2 has great focus on teamwork. Then there's CoD4 soon. FUN OVERLOAD!
Yes. This.Originally Posted by EvilIdler
TF2 needs this.
I agree, I much prefer waiting half an hour to find a suitable game rather than jumping on a random server.
Man, the upcoming LAN party for me is actually the only thing souring my TF2 experience. I have a great time with my local LAN buddies, but they're mostly a bunch of cheapskates. I can never get them to buy games, which means I've got to junk up my machine with sketchy pirated versions of games I already bought just to play with them because I'm in the minority.
(I really don't want to kick off a discussion of piracy or whether I should or shouldn't be allowed to install multiple copies on a LAN or whatever, I just want to vent about my friends.)
Of course, our next party may not be till after Rock Band is out, in which case I won't be sitting at the PC very long for any games.
I'm really loving all the modes - keeps the game fresh and exciting I find!
Demoman video is out:

Yeah, this was probably the better thread to post it in; in the other one the natives are too restless.
Huzzah, Sudden Death has been nerfed.
It still doesn't work well, but now it only doesn't work well when the other gambit wasn't working well anyway, so at least it tries to end the game only when there's no progress towards a resolution in other ways.
Why isn't the demoman video on Steam yet? I wants the HD magic.
I haven't been able to jump in the game recently, how was sudden death changed?Originally Posted by Iron Xides
While reading the Steam news for demoman-related proceedings, I discovered that the latest update made it so Sudden Death only kicks in if the teams are tied and both flags are in their bases in CTF. If the teams aren't tied, the higher scoring team presumably wins.Originally Posted by SqueakyFoo

Wow best $44 bucks i've spent in awhile, for sure. Every match i learn something new about the classes and this adds to the fun. Just had a blast raining sticky bombs on people as a Demoman, exploding them just before they hit the ground. It was like calling in a artillery barrage. So far the spy has been the most difficult to learn, not knowing the maps has made it tough getting around a concentrated fire fights for some back stabs. Way fun though.
In game: JetLagger.
Just had a blast, literally in Hydro. We went to sudden death and most were staying back but I took a Pyro the back way to their base and snuck up behind 4 guys just torching them and was running behind a 5th ready to sizzle him when he noticed me and blew me into 40 pieces...but, my flanking brought everyone else to their side and the final two were finished off very quickly...felt great.
Now, I'm sufficiently good at the game that I want more teamwork..not hardcore but enough to get people somewhat organized....gotta find a good server for this if anyone has any suggestions!
