Hope I don't lag out, else I'll play a engineer.

    TF2: Friday Night!

Why don't we shoot for a 10pm EST start time, and folks who are on later can join up as they can.

Chet has been kind enough to set up the Qt3 Invite, which should show up within Steam, and it will be on the same server as Wednesday night's bash.

I will try to attend as well... The server was full a lot on Wednesday, though. Might be hard to get in.

7PST, awesome. I'll be there sucking as usual, but still enjoying it. :D

Oh, I haven't seen this posted yet, and it worked for me. I'll just copy/paste this stuff right off of Shacknews, and it's worked brilliantly for me. I've gone from intermittently reliable bottomed out settings to prevent crashing to everything but MSAA/Texture Filtering cranked(mid-range now), and not a single crash in an hour of play. Apologies for the previous double post. I'm used to a system where if nobody has posted after you, it's just tacked onto your post.

Brian Jacobson from Valve has basically figured it out. Steam runs out of a specific type of memory called "PagedPoolSize". This is why the crash happens on all configurations and so on (Link: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...postcount=1033 )

    The solution is either:
    a) Wait for Valve to fix it...
    b) Fix it yourself!

Option B gets you instant results. Here's how:
    1) Open up Registry Editor. Start Menu > Run > regedit > OK

    2) Surf to this key:
    /{HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Session Manager\Memory Management}/

    3) Change the REG_DWORD of "PagedPoolSize" to one of the following values:
    /{Megabytes Hexadecimal
    192Mb 0c000000
    256Mb 10000000
    384Mb 18000000}/
Most people should use 256Mb... more isn't really necessary. If it doesn't work, try 384Mb

    4) Close it down and reboot your computer.

    5) Enjoy Team Fortress 2 in DirectX 9.0 with MOTION BLUR!

    Hope this helps!

Just got the beta and had the stutter issue. I've made the registry change so we'll see if it happens again.

My Steam ID is Psychotrain, I'll try and join tonight as well.

I had an update yesterday, which seemed to fix it. Then I updated again today,
and even on a locked, empty server I had the issue almost like clockwork!
Tried the fix. Will see how gaming tonight goes.

    FR2 - KILLING TIME FRIDAY 9PM EST

The event announcement is up, and the start time listed as 9pm EST. This is a bit earlier, so if it is empty at 9, check back at 10pm. EST.

For those of you who aren't yet in the QuarterToThree group on Steam, join the group (you'll have to browse groups, and then search 'quartertothree') You will then see the event, with the server's ip address and the password.

I look forward to being shot by each and every one of you. Dibs on the bonesaw!

EDIT: (I meant TF2 above, not quite sure where or what FR2 is...)

Is the server up to date with the new patch and all? Hooray for improved pyro hit detection and upped point blank damage. :D

A quick review on how to find the game:

From within Steam, click on the Community Tab, then My Control Panel. If you've already joined the QuarterToThree group, you should see "Killing Time" listed under "My Events" . Left click on "Killing Time" and that will bring up the IP and password. A bit of cutting and pasting in the server browser and you should be good to go.

Now if you didn't see Killing Time under my events, you probably haven't joined the QuarterToThree group, which you can do by clicking on the Community Tab, then search for the string "Quartertothree". Click on the group, and then you should be able to join.

Well, I just scored my easiest intelligence capture ever on 2Fort. Went through the defenders like they weren't even there...

That 2Fort fight was epic. With two decently matched teams, will this game every get old?

Does anyone else have the problem where you keep losing connection to the server while playing?

I have a very fast connection at home (Fiber optic) and I can download at 200-300k a second but I seem to get suddenly disconnected very frequently even though this never happened when the beta first started. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

This happens to me with CS:S....once I restart my computer I can play for a long time..but if I leave and come back a few times, I start to get disconnected constantly until I restart again...don't know if this will happen with TF2 though.

Yes, every time, with ten to twenty seconds of joining. Can't seem to shake it. I've resorted to deleting and reinstalling the game, will see if that works.

Chalk me up as another success story for this registry edit. I'd been running in DX8 to avoid the crashes until now, but now I can have it on max settings and DX9 with no hanging.

The Pyro buff and Demoman nerf both seem to have worked out well. The advantage of the Soldier is more obvious now, and Pyros are often the highest scoring players of the match.

Here's a question since I know someone here has a spray, having seen it during QT3 matches. How the hell do I get one?

I've got some things converted into .vtf, but there's no indication they're importing, and working with a .tga gives me an error loading vtex.dll.

OK I'm feeling the itch to play this bad boy. How do I get it so I can play now then? :)

By preordering the Orange Box through Steam for $45. (Or, depending on your preferences, via Gamestop, as Chet pointed out.)

Start HL2 deathmatch or similar. Go to your user directory inside the Steam/steamapps and dig around for a VGUI folder.
It should be inside materials. Copy it to a similar point inside the TF2 directory.

Thanks, EvilIdler, I'll check that out. Odd, since the folders that I thought were needed were in place. Will that allow me to use .tga, or do I still need to use the .vtf?

I've pre-ordered and you should find me floating around as Tiny_Pirate - gah, I Wish I could consolidate all my alternate IDs!

Oh, what's the deal with 'guest passes'? Can I not install the games across my machines? Am I stuck with TF2 on my laptop? Eerk!

As far as I know, a guest pass allows you to give a friend a time-limited 'demo' of the game. I believe the demo may even be a fully featured version, but I'm not positive. You can install steam (and games) on as many computers as you own, but you can only be logged into one at a time.

The guest passes let you give a friend a complete version of the game for a limited time. You can install the game on as many pcs as you would like.

Awesome. Thanks. Hmm, the only advantage to buying the boxes now is I can ebay them after... hmmm but at digital distribution prices.. the winner is digital!

edit: Ok where do I find the manual for this thing? :O
edit: And wow, it really runs very very smoothly on my laptop which is only mildly a gaming one. Very impressive.
