My TF2 has 45 hours played but I think it's only logged half or less of my total play time.
That's a roundabout way of saying yes, I am up for TF2. I left just before the Soldier vs. Demo update finished for no real reason, although I wasn't a fan of the Payload Race map.
Do we have a voice server or are we using the built-in one?
Is there a specific server people are thinking of using? I know we've gotten a lot of recommendations on and off in the past, but I don't know which ones are still running, etc.
Or would it work better to just get people to start playing, and self-sort to a lightly loaded server once people are online?
My body is ready.
I have never played TF2, but I would like to give it a shot. Can anyone give me advice on where to start?
Download Steam, install TF2, train a bit, find a server, shoot people in da face? :D
I played Pyro for a little while yesterday after having not played in forever... It was pretty fun. I topped out the score boards, so either I got a lot better, or there are a lot more people playing TF2 in general (MNC was/is mostly us diehards). Good to switch up, will definitely be back more.
I'd join if it weren't for the fact my ping would let me down :(
Also, on one page of steam it tells me I've recorded 1005 hours and on my records and stats page it tells me 865 hours. Surely I didn't spent 140 hours of my life waiting for a game to start, or sitting waiting for respawn did I? Seems a bit odd.
I got on for a bit when the invite went out, not sure if I played with anyone here, as your names are probably different :p
Yeah I never played either but always meant to...
So, uh I made a TF2 Qt3 group. We can organize games once we get enough people. Likely a lot of mingling with Qt3-L4D.
Just contact a member for a invite.
Does anyone know why the Steam server menu would refresh unbearably slow? In this, CS, CS Source, I wait 5 minutes to get barely 300 servers- used to load thousands in a few seconds! Haven't changed anything recently network wise TMK...

I'm having probs getting onto developer.valvesoftware.com as well, which is sort of annoying because I want to read the docs for srcds.
Any thoughts on the new payload map, BarnBlitz?
I like it, but it is very tight, with multiple choke points so it is very hard as the attacker. I've been on the winning side of a few attacks, but I've yet to lose a defense.
It is a very fun map as a Heavy, lots and lots of mayhem.
I might have to play again if I can straighten out my wireless problems. Nothing better than dropping into the middle of an attack wave as Pyro and spreading mayhem.
It's absolutely brutal to be the attacking team when the other side has solid sentry placement and a couple of heavy/medic teams. If I had to guess, they will be adjusting the geometry to give the BLU somewhere to exit their spawn that's not completely exposed to enemy fire.
On another topic: crafting. I've racked up 200+ hours and had a lot of junk in my backpack. With the new release, it's pretty easy to turn those extra weapons you have into the new weapons if you want to try them out. The recipies and crafting requirements are all pretty clear, I believe they have been greatly simplified. Hats and accessories will take a lot more materials, but weapons are accessible.
Better than having 12 Jarates stinking up your backpack.
I picked up the new Soldier melee weapons last night. The "Market Gardener" spade that gives crits while rocket jumping, and the "Disciplinary Action" riding crop that speeds up allies.
But I hardly ever play soldier, and I've never been able to get the hang of rocket jumping. So I'm very happy to trade away the market gardener, and would consider trading away the riding crop.
I'd like to get the new medigun, the new medic melee weapon, the heavy's tomislav, or stuff that would help me craft them. Like a refined metal, or a whole bunch of jarates.
As for the group, I figure we can figure a regular time every day, similar to the way the L4D group works, and we can just take over a server.
Someone invite me to the steam group. :p
I'm friends with a whole bunch a' ya but it appears most of you are away. Can someone chuck me an invite?
Do we have any idea about when to set up times for everyone to play?
Must ... resist ...
I've been on the road the past week, so I haven't even downloaded this yet. I quit TF2 a month ago and don't even want to look at what the servers are like after this update.
The nail in the coffin for me was a Payload map where I watched this scout spend the entire warmup round beaing a sniper with his bat. He took a few seconds break to shoot the sniper four times, then ran over to a heavy and hit him for a few seconds, then spent the last 20 seconsd of warmup beating the sniper again. CLANK. CLANK. CLANK. CLANK. The whole warmup.
Before the round started, I said in chat, "this should be spectacular."
It was actually a pretty good 10v10 game, which my team (attacking) won with about 1:20 left, with every point well contested by both sides. Our MVP had 51 points. I was second with 43. Our scout, who spent the entire warmup meleeing people like a fucking spaz, finished with 2. TWO.
Pissed, I congratulated the scout on his predictably useless performance, which of course, turned into a pissing match. He actually had a headset on, and in a sarcastic tone, announced "well, I don't play that often and don't cry like a baby if I win or lose."
To which I responded, "yeah, we won, so I don't care about that. It's that you didn't even PLAY the fucking game, you spent the entire match doublejumping and and dying every 5 seconds and without even trying to play. What's worse is that I KNEW you were going to be a useless douchebag from watching you melee your teammates the entire warmup. What was that about?"
That, remarkably, shut him up. I dropped server shortly after and haven't played TF2 since.
I've made this rant before, but I'm just tired of TF2 being a place not for noobs, but for people who have zero interest in actually playing. They just want to snipe or shoot rockets or sneak around as a spy and the fact that the game has actual objectives never even enters their fucking mind. And this update certainly isn't going to improve anything. So until Valve overhauls the game or releases TF2 and adds some form of ranked servers, I'm done with TF2 for the forseeable future.
Except for a Qt3 game, that is. :)
I recall being told by one of my friends there is a plugin out for servers that prevents F2P players from getting on a server. I haven't seen it happen yet.
Sounds like you described every objective based game on the net, Sluggo. I wish there was something like you're describing, though, something that doesn't promote superserioushardcorel33texclusion like DOTA and co do, but something that encourages people to PUSH THE FUCKING CART, etc.
Regarding pushing the cart, I was on a payload map just now where for 1 minute, I was the only one on my team pushing the cart with no enemies nearby.
The random item drop system hates me, haven't played the game for at least 6 months, first item that drops for me is a fricken uber-saw.
