...? anyone who has played it, can't talk about it
So I obviously want to play Halo 3's campaign (I'm more a single-player / co-op guy than I am a multiplayer guy). But of course I would like to see the entire story.
How does the co-op campaign mode work? One person hosts, starting from their last save point, and the other folks join in? Who gets to have their goodies saved? Does joining another person's campaign game affect the state of your own personal campaign save (I assume not)?
The problem is I have less time to game than anyone, so I can't see how I'm going to sync up with others to play through the game in true tandem... inevitably one of us will want to play when the other one can't, and then whammo, we're out of step. Oh well, I guess it's only a problem the first time through. Can you replay levels as much as you want in co-op after beating them?

From what I understand, you can't start at a "checkpoint," you have to start at the beginning of a level. You host a game like you do a multiplayer game - one to three players join you for a total of up to four, and when everyone is in you begin the level. At whatever level the host has gotten to (or any earlier level, I suppose).
If you play through, let's say, three levels this way, all the players will have those levels unlocked as starting points for their own single player or co-op games.
Coop matches can start from any one of a handful of checkpoints per level that the host has already passed during other games. Note that coop checkpoints are much more sporadically placed than the frequent single player checkpoints.
I'm still not sure if coop matches can be joined by strangers. I think they are limited to your friends list only - no matchmaking or server list.
Well, basically, you and up to three friends sta$@%~~~df~^

What the hell?
Bill Gates just cut the phone line to Denny's house!
-Tom
Does Denny work at Microsoft? Specifically Bungie?
If so, the joke just got funny. Otherwise... Eh, mediocre.
It's safe to say that Denny's in a position to know things.
-Tom
Denny is ex-KGB.
Ahhh, to both.
Though, I would've gone for a more Atlas approach to ending him... Specifically the end of the Demo area...
Maybe if we ask nice. DennyA, would you kindly tell us about Halo3 co-op?
Oh, that was my bad guys. I was just wrapping up "Begging For Mercy Makes Me Angry" but I guess I got carried away and kept frying rogue AIs after I finished Durandal's mercy killing.
I think Tycho will have DennyA back up in a few hours anyway, but if he seems a little weird, try to pretend not to notice.
Well, at precisely the time I'm allowed to tell you about co-op, various professional news organizations will be posting approximately 183,423 words describing Halo 3 Co-Op in excruciating detail...
***TRANSPORT WHEN READY***
I'm sorry. It's late. I haven't slept a lot. I've been playing a lot of Marathon 2.
And I've had a lot of Game Fuel.
So WHEN do we find out more about the Halo 3 coop? I'm holding out on buying that game until I hear more about it...
Are you serious? Its going to be good Co-op any way it shakes down.
Go, preorder, guarantee your copy.
I'm not that desperate for it. I liked the coop in HL1, but HL2 got pretty boring pretty fast. I'll wait and see.
Amen to that. Halo 2 was pretty crappy also.Originally Posted by Matt Perkins
I see what you did there Bob.
Either way, apparently, some people in the United Kingdom and Ireland got their copies early as a store received them and began selling them immediately.
Lucky bastards.
what was fundamentally different?Originally Posted by Matt Perkins
just having live co op was my main concern for halo 2, and then 3.
we'll hear all about it in detail on the 23rd when the review embargos end.
DennyA, would you KINDLY just stop JOKING and SPILL THE BEANS already?
Argos broke the street date in ireland/uk for halo3 and sold a couple of thousand(if not more) copies today :D
My understanding is that the embargos end sunday
There are a few listings on Ebay for Halo 3 copies here in the US so other places must be breaking street date or employees are stealing copies. There are also people on ebay trying to sell the Halo Edition Xbox 360 for $500 to upwards of $2000, despite the fact that they are very easy to just buy at retail for $400... fuckin' ebay.
