LOTRO: Calling All Alts! (New characters, too!)

    NEW AND REVISED ANNOUNCEMENT

Bring out your alts! Here's the chance to get started on a new character, whether it's your first or an alt, and play with some of the Qt3 junkies who've been leveling beyond the capacity of people with real lives.

Starting at 1pm Pacific/4pm Eastern, we'll form groups of characters based on your level and location (if you can't arrive until later, we can still make room for you). When you log on, send a /tell to Tomwise with your level, class, and location. I'll clump folks together into Fellowships, which might be slightly easier than everyone finding each other on the /kinship chat. Just to give folks a general idea of meeting locations, you'll probably want to move towards Gondamon if you're an elf or dwarf, and towards Buckland if you're a human or hobbit. If you're super low level, just stay put.

Note that there is no level restriction! I'd previously suggested that folks try to get to level 10, but we have some 6-10s as well as 10-15s. As long as you're out of the beginners' area and into the game world proper, we'll find some folks from the kinship for you to group with.

Once the groups are formed, you'll be on your own to work out what quests to do, whether you want to avoid spoilers or just plow through content, and whether it's rude for explorers to veers off after every last bit of ore and wood. :)

I'm in. Polko is level 13 at the moment, but I've still got lots of quests towards the eastern end of the Shire to take care of. Plus I haven't done much of the main storyline quest.

I'm game for this! Probably bring my level 8ish Elf Minstrel, Ledonel.. Will see if I can twist Ezdaar's arm to get him to come play, too.. Maaaaybe Tostig, too, but he's busy often on Sundays..

Capital idea! I daresay this should become a regular affair if it works out.

Wilburforce* the Hobbit Minstrel will be there, ready to explore the Shire! I've never done any of the Shire prologue and looking forward to it. He's 7 now but be sure to attain 9 or 10 before Sunday.

    ---

*No relation to Wilbur... Wilburforce is a legendary halfling character from a friend's D&D campaign** I played in back in the day.

** Dorian Hart's campaign, as a matter of fact. When you're lucky enough to have one of the main designers of Ultima Underworld 1 & 2, and System Shock, as your DM, let me tell you its a damn fine D&D campaign.

I have a few alts, Dinin, Zandamor, Ferrigan and I think a 1/2-ling called Skully

But like you mentioned, some of us have lives, and I havn't been able to play much, kinda stinks.

And I really enjoy LRO, more than WoW or EQ ever had me.

I'll try to be on as Chaucer, the Man Captain.

I didn't mean to pick what seems to be the single most popular class in the game, but lo and behold...

I'm absolutely in. I've got Ildanor, a level 10 champion, and if that's a bit too high level, I can get Aluanor, my lore-master, out of the prologue.

The Curse of the Southern Lands (ie it's 6:30 am Monday) will probably prevent me from joining for long. It's a huge shame; as Eafe would have liked to join a quick-levelling group doing a search-and-destroy around Bree.

When he gets to a higher level, I want Wilbur, Wulfbur and Wilburforce to form a Fellowship!

Count me in the "no spoilers" group, but it's not a hard preference -- I'll still have fun in a spoilery group, I just prefer the no spoiler method (at least until we get hideously stuck or something). Also I obviously wont be contributing to the spoilage having never done anything much in the Shire.

I think you just get a distorted impression in the Man starting area, as all Captains are Men. Once you get out in the broader world, you'll see that everybody is a Hunter, not a Captain. :)

We’ll start at 1pm Pacific/4pm Eastern, at the intersection at Waymeet. This will be a non-spoiler group, geared towards people who haven't done the quests.

That's hobbit burglar. This is a Tolkien license, they can use hobbits and not halflings. LOL. ;-)

I have a 10th level champion on Nim but I find myself with a distinct lack of time to play. I also have RL friends on another server.

I will be there. Just not sure who I will bring.

I have a champion and burglar ready to go, but I have the feeling a minstrel would be a lot more useful so I might try making one of those.

I have a level 10 Dwarf minstrel, but I'll probably be playing a board game at this time so I won't be able to participate. Plus it sounds like nobody has a dwarf. The Dwarf starting area is pretty barren compared to beta.

I'll be starting LOTRO Saturday evening, so I don't know if I'll be high enough by mid-afternoon Sunday, but I'd like to do this. I have no preference between spoilerish or non-spoilerish groups, but I probably shouldn't lead others my first weekend in the game.

Don't know my name yet, but I'll likely be a burglar.

No problem if I'm too low for this one; I appreciate Tom's effort at putting these together.

It doesn't take long to hit 10. You reach level 5 in practically the first half-hour, it seems.

So it looks like this is going to work differently than I expected. I've revised the post at the top of the thread. Have a look, and then come meet us Sunday afternoon!

So that seemed to go well! We had three groups, one of which dissolved pretty quickly, the second which made a decent bit of a progress (Thanks Xemu and strummer!), and a third under the watchful eye of Dave V that must have cranked out three to five levels for all involved.

    Good work, folks!

Yeah, my bad on the dissolving group. A combination of the long run to Bree plus slight bewilderment at the chain of quests we were pursuing sapped my motivation right quick. Sorry gang.

Yeah, we had a great time, and met a cool new person. Managed to tear through all of the prequel for everyone except poor Eowe, who kept disconnecting every five minutes, and, for some reason, despite being human, had hobbit prequel quests. I think most of us got some great new loot, too.

I guess it was mentioned somewhere else, but what server is this all on?

I've renounced my "alt-itis" ways in favor of focusing on one (Georic, who's now a level 32 Hunter on Elemendril [I never spell the server name correctly, sorry] :) But I'm looking to work on another server at some point. I'm finding pick-up Fellowshipping plenty fun, but I'd be quite keen on something a bit more organized (even loosely) as here. :)

(Eoeve is one of my alts...)

For some reason my new PC has compatibility issues with LOTRO. I haven't had time to troubleshoot it yet, but the game throws a Windows failure every hour or so, with no warning. Wacky.

I confess: I'm not only an alt-aholic, but also a quest-aholic. My main, Merien, has done the starter quests for all of the zones, not just her home zones (Elven/Dwarven). With the deeds and traits, there's a finally an MMO that rewards that sort of behavior!

Besides, who could resist hanging out in the shire and helping out the hobbits? I love those little guys. :)

Yes, I've been called that many times, especially here. But what server is this taking place on?

    Oh. OK...
