Finally, a new AL-bum!

How many artists who released their first albums in the early 1980s are still turning out quality music? Hah, most of them are lucky to get 5 minutes on VH-1's "Where are they now?"

But the comic genius and his talented band are back! Yes, "Weird Al" Yankovic's new album, "Poodle Hat," will be released May 20.

And there was much rejoicing!

Ah, Al, we've been through so much together... My first girlfriend finally realizing what a geek I was when she heard me cracking up to "Yoda" in the high school parking lot... "One More Minute," the song that got me through the termination of my first marriage. (Not only the content, but also the joy of playing it at full volume so that my soon-to-be-ex, living in the apt. next door, could hear it over and over again...) Knowing my wonderful present wife was the woman for me when, on the second date, she spotted my "Weird Al" boxed set and didn't run screaming for the door...

That makes 2 of you. :)

Seriously, admitting to a love for Weird AL was dicey fifteen years ago, but now?

Wow Denny, this colors my opinion of you in a most interesting way!

(I'm not a Weird Al fan, except for Amish Paradise and ALL the Polkas on 45)

Well, if you've only heard his parodies, I can understand the confusion. For the most part, it's his originals that I find truly amusing. You Kazaa-using types should check out these songs...

"Good Enough for Now"
"One More Minute"
"Good Old Days"
"Melanie"
"You Don't Love Me Anymore"
"Christmas at Ground Zero"

And you have to admit that "(This Song is Just) Six Words Long" (a rip on "(Got My Mind) Set on You") and "Smells like Nirvana" are classic parodies, no? And "Addicted to Spuds," "I want a New Duck," and "Amish Paradise" are better than the originals. :)

Bleh. I'm bored of Weird Al. Amish Paradise pretty much spelled the end of my liking him, actually.

I prefer Adam Sandler's stuff... by a lot.

Anyone hear Jimmy Fallon's album. Ugh. How can one person be so funny on screen and be so terribly unfunny on CD?

Interesting. I appreciate Weird Al's stuff, but find Adam Sandler extremely irritating. There's no accounting for taste, I suppose. ;)

Funny on screen? Must have missed that... Just because Tina Fey laughs at every joke either one of them tells doesn't make it actually funny...

And Adam Sandler? Ugh. It just goes to show you that tastes in entertainment definitely vary.

(Of course, what should I expect from a guy who works at a company that makes games where grown men pretend to be elves?)

Denny - you are teetering close to the edge of becoming crochety. You are about one fist-shake away.

You kids with your dumb comics. Weird AL. Now that was comedy.

Go ahead with the "SNL just isn't what it used to be" tirade so the circle will be complete.

I find Weird Al's stuff to be irritating... when it is funny, it's "heh" funny. Not even a chuckle, really. More like "that's kinda clever."

Actually, SNL has *never* been that funny. Even the Not Ready for Prime Time Players had their share of dead episodes. Yes, SNL has had brilliant moments, but hey, put a monkey on camera 40 Saturday nights a year for 30 years and he'll probably crack people up about as often. :)

I'd already resigned myself towards being considered crotchety as soon as I realized that 97% of new music totally sucked. :-)

I bet Weird Al is a Rush fan. I know he likes TMBG and Devo, and that practically guarantees a highbrow geekery trifecta.

Hey, Sparky, When I read the first post my mental response was "Hey, RUSH has been recording from the late 60s/early 70s and is still putting out good stuff now." so you're not alone.

Of course, I also dig Weird Al so I'm in both camps.
