    FPS winter madness

Wow. For the last few months I've happily been playing strats and sims, but my FPS itch is getting pretty insistant. I've been planning on playing Rainbow:Vegas and getting a compiled Half life2 set really soon, but right there on the immediate horizon is Armed Assault (feb22), BIA:Hell's Highway (march1), Quake wars (march1) and Stalker (march6)(dates from gogamer). What's a man to do with all these choices?

Yeah, those dates look like estimates to me. In particular, March 1st for BIA and Quake Wars sounds like they're saying 2Q instead of an actual shipping date. And I share Hawkeye's amusement at the prospect of seeing Stalker in a little more than a month.

But, yeah, Armed Assault might be pretty cool after they've let Europe bang on it for a while. :)

I would be shocked if Quake Wars hits March

hrm.. jumped the gun then huh. Gogamer has usually delivered for me on short term dates, but yeah, I guess march1 releases are pretty suspect. oi.

I don't know about Stalker, but I do know that Quake Wars has been officially pushed back to a Summer release.

Stop it, you and Spiffy are killing me. I'm having trouble breathing, I'm laughing so hard.

OK, (deep breath) I'm better now.

Quake Wars is the only of these that I'm interested in. And despite the awesome preview movies, my interest is extremely tempered by the fact that I didn't care much for Wolf: ET.

But it's a scientifically substantiated and well-established fact that you have really shitty taste in games.

Not buying a new video card for it since I'm guessing it's a turd.

I doubt you'd need to. The game would've looked amazing if it had come out 2-3 years ago. As it is, from what I've seen the engine has aged reasonably well, but it's not exactly cutting edge.

Okay..you will be surprised. No promises on the quality but it will be out then.

Are you serious? That's like saying Bigfoot's going to be doing a promo at the mall. I want to believe it, but I'm still a little dubious.

I know, but I'm expecting it to run like garbage.

Sadly, I'm kind of expecting the same thing.

Arma had some rough reviews on its first release but the newer builds (apparently) look much better. Performance, control, better LOD transitions.

    and from third party mod...

Checking the fan sites it appears new unit packs are being released in volume.

They talked quite a bit about STALKER on a recent GFW podcast and made it sound like there might still be some hope for it.
