Just an update. I ordered a few cheap games from that sale, and I was nervous, since they're pre-owned games. Just a cursory look at the discs I got reveals lots of scratches and smudges on the Battlestations: Midway disc. Same with the Project Sylpheed disc. The GRAW 2 disc is a little better, only a few scratches on that one. And almost no scratches or smudges on Sega Rally Evo. All in all it cost me $60 for those four games, which isn't bad at all for a price, but I really hope I don't run into problems later in some of these games where the scratches cause certain things to be inaccessible.

My only previous experience with used games wasn't bad. I bought Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, and it had a scratch that caused only the good ending of the game to be unviewable. But that's ok, because I went online and viewed it on Youtube. And it turns out that Warrior Within was my favorite game in the new trilogy. It started off absolutely horribly with the metal bikini chick and the heavy metal music, but it got much, much better as the game progressed. The D'haka sequences are still my favorite in the franchise. Just brilliant. And the heavy metal riffs were actually very fitting for those sequences.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if a few games from GF have scratches, but generally they're pretty good, and the mint boxes are always nice. The sale is kind of down to slim pickings now though, from what I looked at yesterday.

Don't know how long this will last, but Amazon's Warehouse deals has a nice offer:

PS3 60 GB Open Box (It says Used - Mint condition) for $354 w/ free shipping

Considering that's fully backwards compatible, and cheaper than the 40 GB, its not a bad deal, even if it is open box. The last time Amazon Warehouse deals had a 60 GB open box deal, people over at CAG said that the PS3s they got were all in good condition.

Note that this includes a free month of Live! It also requires the disc in your 360 to play any of the games.

The only game I can recall having significant scratching troubles with from Gamefly was Guitar Hero II, which was next best thing to unplayable - ran occasionally, for some period, but would freeze or otherwise bork after a while, sometimes produced corrupt saves, etc. But just to be on the safe side I usually have them rent me the game then Keep It if it works properly. Not an option if you're not a member, of course.

Circuit City has a couple of cheap games online again. Don't know how long this will last, but here's the links:

    Project Sylpheed

    Bullet Witch

$9 each. Judging by reviews Bullet Witch probably isn't worth the $9. I just bought Project Sylpheed from the Gamefly sale for $15, and it came with scratches and smudges. This new copy would have been much better.

I think they have the same deals in the stores too.

Hotel Dusk (NDS) arrived from Gamefly yesterday, in a padded envelope, and the game was in great condition. Thanks for the heads up!

Looks like Project Sylpheed is out of stock.

    :(

It's still showing up as "Add to Cart" for me. As always, if you want the game from the website, keep checking at random times during the week. When Call of Juarez was on sale a couple of weeks ago, it kept showing back up as in stock regularly.

Same here but once you add it to your cart (and it STILL looks like it is in stock) and then press the checkout button, you find out they don't really have any. Circuitcity.com is one of those websites that seem to try to make it purposefully confusing when an item is out of stock. I hate that shit.

Best buy is having a buy 2 get one free on budget software this week. Alot of it looks pretty bad but there are some gems in there, Painkiller special edition, Freedom Force 2 and bejeweled are listed there.

edit: Speaking about Freedom Force 2, I saw it on the list of games that have starforce on it, can anyone confirm if the US version had it?

I bought FF2 this year. It had been relabeled a GFW title and there was no Starforce. Boycott Starforce does have FFvtTR on its Starforce list, so that must be the case for the initial run of the game.

According to Circuit City's ad this week, there is a clearance sale on their video games for $8 each, the ad doesn't mentioned what games though.

There's a list of $8.96 games on CAG, but I think you need to register for their forums to read it.

Every time I've tried to take advantage of a CC sale, I never find a thing that's on clearance. Not that they make it easy in their awful game section to find anything, but I did try yesterday and didn't come up with any of the titles I was interested in.

And I think it's in-store only, as the website does not reflect the $8.96 price even on the games pictured in the ad, or at least it did not as of Sunday afternoon.

CC does a big blowout in-store clearance like this every so often, but the local stores by me never label a damn thing properly, so you have to go down there, grab every game you might think is $8.96, then round up some store flunky to scan them all and tell you which ones really are. It's rarely worth the trouble.

found a number of Wii games on clearance at my local target. Picked up DBZ Budokai 2 for $7.50. I really hate DBZ stuff but I mean, for $7.50, I figured there's a good chance I could turn around and pawn it at gamestop for more than that. Most clearance stuff were $50 titles dropped to $25. YMMV of course but it may be worth checking your local Target

Target is dishing out jewel-case CDV titles for $10. Here's your chance to get Darkstar One & Pacific Storm for just a bit more cash than they're worth.

Checked another target and found Stranglehold for windows for $12.50 and Bioshock for windows for $25. The Bioshock deal is a steal if you don't already have it.

Wow. I may have to go in and drag a bunch of other clearance marked games to the scanner to see what they ring up at.

Gish is $5 until the 17th on Steam. Not too bad, especially since it just got an enormous update (the reason for the discount, actually.)

Spotted on Slickdeals: several upcoming games available for pre-order from Walmart at prices well below MSRP, including SSBB for $20 and R6V2 for $30. The prices are almost certainly errors, so I wouldn't be surprised if all orders got canceled by Walmart - but hey, no harm in trying, right?

Thanks for that! I ordered Condemned 2 ($20), R6V2 ($30), Burnout Paradise ($40) and Turok ($30). Altogether, with $2 shipping on each, plus taxes, it came to $34 each. We'll see if they honor it. If they don't, no big deal, since I probably won't get most of these games until they drop to those prices anyway. Except Rainbow Six Vegas 2. I'll probably get that one on Day one.

Damn. I put R6V2 in the shopping cart and the price jumped to $59.82.

Yeah, so far they've increased the price of R6:V2 and SSBB to their normal price. Don't know how long the other mistakes will last. Someone's obviously onto it and fixing the prices as we speak.

Fingers crossed** Hope they honor the pre-orders. Apparently Walmart.com has been known to honor mistakes on the website in the past.
