Outstanding, glad to see he's going to take some time off.
Based on this thread, Cloister isn't a real spell, and Xykon's headband is Dorukan's (the guy in charge of the first gate in the original dungeon). Cloister is speculated to block magical communication and travel, or possibly even mundane forms.Originally Posted by ydejin

Thx. Definitely would not have figured out the Dorukan connection.Originally Posted by Iron Xides

I was beginning to wonder when Roy'd show up in heaven.
I thought the Batman Begins reference was funny.
Looks like he's going to be taking some serious time off. Good. I think it's better that he let's himself heal and back on a regular schedule than keep posting stuff intermittently.
I got all excited and thought that today was the day for the next strip. But nope, that would be Monday.
What kind of sick, twisted monster releases the first strip of the next story arc on a monday?!
Ooooh the humanity!
What kind of sick, twisted monster posts in this thread before a new strip is up, taunting me?
Seriously! I was just looking at OOTS's site yesterday and lamenting that I had to wait till Monday for more, and I see this thread and click and it's just more people like me waiting...
Yarrrrgh... I'll get in line behind Kalle and nixon66.
I just spent 800$ on the latest batch of college books and so help me GOD some other people are sharing my pain.Originally Posted by Kalle

Everyone, including me, posting in this thread before Rich ends his break is fired, effective immediately.
I feel like the mouse in that Night Before Christmas story.
*meep*
It could be worse, though. You could be erfworld fans.
Because then we'd be cheering on a fat dirty guy whose writer doesn't have his own site?
No, because you'd be reading a shite comic.Originally Posted by Aeon221

It's a good one. It's good to have it back.
Nicely done, especially the DBZ reference...
He needed to apologize for having an 80* page battle that managed to be incredibly dull somehow, right?Originally Posted by Malderi

I read Erfworld, more because it's there than anything else. The author has some real problems though. (Armchair punditry ahead.)
Setting a comic in a turn-based wargame is an interesting conceit, but since so much other stuff in the world moves in real time, the game rules sort of stick out as peculiar. And it's a game that has been the focus of a vast majority of the strips - explaining rules, showing moves, planning strategy, etc. I still don't know much about the characters or even what the war is about. So it's pretty dull; we don't know what the stakes are or even what Hamster's options are, since the author seems to be making up the rules as he goes along.
Maybe he isn't doing that, but it's like me watching Yu-Gi-Oh, when the hero pulls out some combination to win that makes no sense to me though I'm sure it does to initiates. All the same, it comes down to whatever card the episode writer put next in whatsisname's deck.
Erfworld has some interesting bits. The leader who dresses like Evel Knievel, for example. And it's not badly written beyond all the cutesey baby talk ("dwagons"? "croakomancy"? Blech.) But the artwork isn't that appealing and it has pacing problems from where I sit.
Still, I read it out of morbid curiosity. Will it get better once this interminable battle ends? Will Hamster get back to his world? Which of the 12-year old girl dolls will he fall in love with?

I liked it for a bit, until it became clear that this was going to be a story of the plucky underdogs getting their asses totally kicked by the incompetent forces of good, who massively outnumber them. Man, what a tense story! Total nail biter seeing what deus ex machina will fuck over the protagonists this time, all at the riveting pace of one comic every week and a half. Woo fucking hoo.
they're not totally incompetent. vinny was cluing onto the siege killing plan before they got the unit loss report. when the prince was surrounded by the dwagons they came up with several options and then he went with the risky but effective plan. and team evil (who i am guessing you consider the protaganists) just had a huge victory killing a bunch of siege engines.Originally Posted by quatoria
i guess i don't mind the limited backstory due to the fact i am really interested in the rules and such. they do give out the occasional clue but i like the warroom scenes and tactics play out. although some of the rules do confuse me, too (like how the few units attacking the wounded dwagons have a high percentage of wiping them out when it takes their 3 most powerful to kill 3 in one round/turn(?)).Originally Posted by Troy S Goodfellow
my favorite scene actually comes in the second to last comic where the hamster actually looks a little badass in the last panel when he is ordering his guys to swarm the warlord after the first part of the disaster starts happening.

Uh... wtf? Get your own thread, you filthy heathens!
And stop saying "dwagons!"
Yeah, new OOTS is up.
Wow. Just wow. That was pretty much the ultimate in owned. Glad to see the comic rediscovered its funny bone =D
Kicked to the curb indeed!
Who's Violet again? Eugene says "You remember her, right?", but I, well, don't.
