    Wii - One Year Warranty

I just dug through the Nintendo.com site and found the relevant info. I saw someone was having some problems with theirs at GAF and wanted to make sure this wasn't going to be a 90-day thing.

Also, you can extend it another 90-days by becoming a My Nintendo member and registering your system on the Nintendo web site.

I take this as an indication that you can actually buy Wiis of the first production run without having them break down in a few weeks.

What's Sony's warranty for the PS3, by the way?

Hopefully this will be a bit of an embarrassment for ms, I'd really like the next xbox to have a 1 year warranty.

In UK you can just call Sony and they send a currier to your door within 24hours with a new machine. It's supposed to be a 12 month thing but they don't check. A friend of mine swapped one that was nearly 2 years old and had been chipped. They never even questioned him about it.

We do pay a lot more for our machines though.

So if we get 15 months for registering our console, did I get ripped off at Best Buy for a 2 year warranty at $40? At the time it sounded like a good deal with stories of Xbox360 looming over my head. Oh well, extra peace of mind I guess.

IIRC they were sued over the warranty for the PS2, so since then the PSP and PS2 Slimline have both had one year warranties. Sony seemed to have learned their lesson with the PS2 just as MS has probably learned theirs with the 360.

Poff. Naw dude, PS2 slims are still on 90-day warranties as well. I'm on my third one, when I got the first in about February.

Might want to light a fire under someone's ass if you had to pay for any of that because you were screwed:

Sony's Support Site(Google cached because most of Sony's support site is down right now):

LIMITED WARRANTY FOR THE PLAYSTATION 2 (SCPH-70000 SERIES) COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) warrants to the original purchaser that each of the constituent products of this "PlayStation®2" console shall be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase (the "Warranty Period"). If one or more of the above-identified products is determined to be defective during the Warranty Period, SCEA's liability shall be limited to the repair or replacement of this product with a new or refurbished product at SCEA's option. For the purpose of this Limited Warranty, "refurbished" means a product that has been eturned to its original specifications. You must call 1-800-345-7669 to receive instructions, and then must deliver the product, freight prepaid, to the authorized service facility specified to obtain repair/replacement services.

zomg Sony screwed me! I hate Sony now forever!

I had to call to have my first one, about a month old, replaced in March because it didn't read CD's, only DVD's. I was safe then and got the second PS2 slim for free, but when that busted in September I had to buy the third one because Sony's tech said it was only a 90-day warranty. It might have changed recently.

Pretty sure it's been that way all along. I think that Sony support tech screwed you pretty hard. Too bad it's probably way too late to get your money back.

I'm starting to wonder if the two-year replacement plan I got at Best Buy was pointless if there is information stored permanently on each unit. This would be easily solved if it were possible to transfer the gamer information (what games you've downloaded, your wii points, etc) onto an SD card before exchanging the unit, and I hope that it is, but something tells me that it isn't.

It wasn't just one tech, though. I needed replacements twice, and both times I was told 90 days. I don't know.
