Despite the first one having a lame plot, there was still a lot that was fun to see: Peter Parker and the rest of the characters came off really well, and the general take on the Spiderman universe all came off pretty well. I liked that it didn't take itself too seriously, but didn't come off like it was condensending either.

I didn't even know there were 70s movies. I watched the cartoon in the 70s and can even hear the theme song in my head: Spiderman, spiderman, does whatever a spider can. Spins a web, any size. Catches thieves, just like flies. :)

There is a really crazy rumor about how SM3 resolves the "cramming 3 villains" dillemma, that is either just a zany rumor or a humongous spoiler that I won't even try to put in here because I don't think Qt3 has the spoiler tags that would automatically black out my text.

No! I can't accept it! I won't accept it! I must... fight... this... EVIL!
Not so fast, Mayoman - Spiderman 2 would still have made a shitty comic book, but it would have been a lot better than the poop we got on screen. In addition, your Spider-Man 2 apologetics are insulting to even the corny, old-fashioned comic writing which your last post actually paid a nice homage to (in an ironically post-modern way): Spider-Man 2 is clumsy, charmless 90's clone-saga-style shlock, with none of the rough charm of the sixties/seventies-era stuff.

It looks like Venom will only be the lead-in for the next movie instead of a featured villain. Looks like the movie mostly will be Peter battling Sandman, then while under the influence of the symbiote, he'll probably kill or seriously mess up Hobgoblin Harry, and that will be the impetus for him to get rid of the suit-- which will then latch on to Eddie Brock. Venom will probably be in only one scene.

P.S. I liked Spider-Man 2 and I count more than you. But I like it just because the train scene is one of the best superhero movie scenes ever-- maybe the best.

I am not up on my Spiderman Lore.. did the Sandman actually kill Ben Parker in the comic books? If so, how did a lowly thief become the Sandman??

(the part in the trailer where Spidey slams Sandman's face against the moving subway train is tres coolio.)

Not unless it's been retconned. Uncle Ben was killed by some low-life nobody.

Pure retcon as far as I know.

Heck, it's retcon for the movie continuity...

Heh. Wouldn't it be hilarious if that's the last scene of the movie? The cliffhanger that would frustrate a million Spider-Man geeks (myself included) instantly. For three years! Raimi could never be so cruel. Or could he? He was never supposed to be a Venom fan.

They said at Comic-Con that Venom kidnaps Mary Jane (WOW BRILLIANT), so I doubt they'll end the movie with that scene.

Incidentally, this popped up on YouTube today -- no idea if it's a rejected cut of the current trailer or a rough cut of the next one (or maybe even a very elaborate fake), but either way it's different and has some footage I haven't seen before.

From the longer trailer that plays before Casino Royale:

COP: We've uncovered new evidence about who REALLY killed your Uncle Ben.

    No, really.

I'm not big on such unbelievable coincidences, if that's the direction they are going.

I really like the sandman effects in the trailer though...I guess sand isn't hard to do, but it still looks good to me.

Is it a retcon or are the cops just making a mistake?

Has anyone else seen the new trailer at NBC.com? It won't be on there for much longer. It a Mary-Jane/Aunt May part, and then we get to see a brutal fight between Harry and Peter. PLUS gigantic looking Sandman. I'm excited.

Wow, even the little version plays like crap on my 2Ghz CPU/1G RAM machine. I admit my specs are a little creaky now, but it shouldn't be this bad. You would think they would be able to optomize it a little better than this.

Crap. Missed the download/viewing opportunity on NBC.com, and stupid Global TV here in Canada didn't show it.

Anyone download it somewhere I can grab it from?

There's a streaming video embedded in the page. The link to the quicktime download may be dead by now.

Streaming crap ain't gonna cut it in today's HD world, but thanks anyway!

It's all over the torrent sites now - and very nice in 720p I might add.

    Don't click here.

    I just hope Spider-man 3 is better than X-Men 3.

Latest, final-FINAL trailer just released: http://spiderman3oncomcast.com/.

Basically a recut of the longer one we chatted about above, but with some nice new shots of Venom. May 4 can't come soon enough!

Wow. Very little Sandman in that one.

    Did we need three villains?
