GOP attack ad pulled for fear of racist implications

    http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/26/us...=1&oref=slogin

So I saw this one on the air here in Tennessee - it made me pretty excited to see this trash one night then hear Karl Rove on NPR the next day listing this race as one of the important ones for GOP strategists. Coming from perennially red Alabama, I've never felt like I had a voice in national politics before.

A spokeswoman for Mr. Ford, who is single, said he was one of 3,000 people who attended a Playboy party at the Super Bowl last year in Jacksonville, Fla.
Critics asserted that the advertisement was a clear effort to play to racial stereotypes and fears, essentially, playing the race card in an election where Mr. Ford is trying to break a century of history and become the first black senator from the South since Reconstruction.

I thought the most racist thing was the black woman at the beginning saying
"Harold Ford looks nice, Idn't that enough?" [sic]

That add was quite an insult to the viewer's intelligence. Why isn't the story that the RNC thinks the voters have an IQ of 50?

Maybe I'm blind, but how exactly is having a white woman say 'Harold, call me' playing the race card? Is it supposed to rile up the 'Dem negroes bin fornicatin with our womun' contingent or something?

Visit Free Republic some time. 50 is generous for those folks.

This is a new GOP strategy--which the Dems may use, but I've only seen Republicans say it outright--to create outrageous ads and run them once, or in limited runs, and capitalize on the media covering the outrage. The first was the Osama Bin Laden ad; this seems cut from the same playbook.

The best part was Mehlman saying that it was impossible for him to stop the ad from running.

They're also running an ad on the radio where they play jungle drums every time they mention Ford's name.
