Will I need to pay Halo 2 before Halo 3?

I hear Halo 2 ends on a cliffhanger that hopefully leads to Halo 3. Since I didnt' have an Xbox until now, is it imperative I play Halo 2 before Halo 3?

I guess the answer probably won't get known until H3 comes out.

You are probably going to want to play H2 before H3. I didn't enjoy it as much as the original Halo but it is still quite good despite the abrupt ending. It looks really good upscaled and anti-aliased as well.

Halo w is as much action movie as FPS. I'd say you'd need to play Halo 2 in order to fully enjoy Halo 3 the same way you'd need to see the first in a series of action movies to enjoy the second.

So it's not really NECESSARY, but I'd recommend it.

Plus, it'll be much less frustrating if you have 3 to play right when 2 ends.

Play Halo, then read the book (Unnecessary, but adds to the canon), play Halo 2, Read coming book (Unnecessary, i'm guessing, but again, adds to the canon) play Halo 3.

Meanwhile, inbetween sessions or while about to go to sleep, read the Halo Graphic Novel. Short, and outrageously priced (27 dollars for a Comic book?), but has some really good art in it.

Of course, you could read the book the prequals Halo: CE, but its unnecessary, and only tells you where you came from. Otherwise, play them all in due fashion. It'll get you pumped for Halo 3...

I tried playing Halo 1, but the old graphics turned me off quick.

Are you sure it wasn't the Library level instead?

    No, but really.

Cuz seriously, That level made me want to kill myself on Legendary. They make 343GS's speech doubled, since you die quite often (First run only).

Just get over the graphics. Honestly, if graphics are a deciding key factor when you play a game with good quality and substantiality, then dear jesus, why do you play games? Sure, many have bad graphics that make it hard, but if its still playable, and a good game, then play it.

Wow. Thanks for the reminder. I've played the MP on Halo 2 many times, but I don't think I ever started the SP campaign.

I knew there was a reason I bought a 360: to play a subset of my old Xbox games while waiting for more 360 games to come out... :)

Wow, you (Mark) must be a first class graphics whore, because Halo's graphics are great. Clearly they are somewhat dated given that the game is 5 years old, but.. jeez.

I'd take a pass on The Flood (the novelization of the game), but if you want the full Halo geek experience I'd read The Fall of Reach, play Halo, read First Strike, play Halo 2, read the upcoming Halo book by the same author (Eric Nylund), read the Halo Graphic novel, then play Halo 3.

    Then there's the quick way.

Ahh... it'd be better to read the Graphic Novel WHILE playing the first one, as its all almost stories from around that time.

And Ghosts of Onyx or Coral or whatever is the next book, between 2 and 3 that you are speaking of.

The novelization SUCKs. Buy it only for the geekdom *Whistles innocently*

Have surgery to stop brain melting from poor sci-fi overload...

Everyone should play Halo Zero, too.

I'm doing this now. Just finished off Halo and started on Halo II. I'd played bits and pieces of them before but never had an xbox myself so never played them through, but now with the 360 I've borrowed them. Halo definately has the problem of meh level design. The indoor parts all repeat too much as has been much discussed. Also it doesn't support widescreen. Playing Halo 2 right after Halo it's kind of impressive to see how much the graphics improved from one game to the other. Plus 2 does have widescreen support. The 360 seems to do a nice job with both titles too.

Halo 2 has some nice AA effects enabled on the 360 as well that weren't present on the Xbox.

What was wrong with the library?
Total 'Bring it on!!!' level. After all the 'tactical' blah blah combat , it was a nice long break of total carnage for what- an hour or so. Come on you get out of that level and Master Chief really is a bad ass.
Has anyone heard a release date for H2 on PC..other than after Vista?

Don't worry, just 4 more doors and a short elevator ride, and then we'll be there. Please wait while I open up the doors to the next area. Yes, over there underneath that ominous-looking tube would be just fine. Here's a clip of needler ammunition, just in case you see any organic mutants while you're waiting.
