Colour me surprised.
I don't care what anyone says, I will be seeing this movie. That is all.
Colour me surprised.
I'll be right there with 'ya.
Shenanigans?

I don't care what anyone says. I actually liked Club Dread.
Then I won't bother telling you that Jay Chandrasekhar is a no-talent hack, the comedy version of M. Night Shyamalan. Hard-to-spell last name and all.Originally Posted by Gary Whitta
The trailer I saw before Ballad of Ricky Bobby looked really wretched; they recycled the same three jokes about three times. I'd like to be pleasantly surprised, so I'll keep an eye on this thread.
I didn't realize this movie was coming out, and I haven't seen a trailer, but I'll certainly check it out eventually -- I didn't realize it's cool to hate Chandrasekhar now.
I thought Club Dread was terrible, but found a lot to like about everything else I've seen he was involved in. He directed the "Cherith Cutestory" episode of Arrested Development, if nothing else.
I think the only redeeming quality of, cough, The Bard's Tale is the beer song. /salute
Why is it you can't call out a no-talent hack for being a no-talent hack without being accused of being trendy around here these days? He only directed those four episodes of Arrested D. And yeah, they were great. Because they were Arrested D. Where he is awful, though, is as a writer.Originally Posted by John Roberdeau

1. Beerfest (2006)
2. Club Dread (2004)
3. Super Troopers (2001)
4. Puddle Cruiser (1996)
From oldest to newest, those are: nobody's seen it, awful, horrid, nobody's seen it (yet). I fail to see what about his resume would induce excitement in any sane adult. Regardless, my opinion of Jay Chandrasekhar has nothing to do with being cool.

I'm excited to see it. Super Troopers was funny. Club Dread was pretty bad except for Bill Paxton's part. Super Troopers was funny enough to give me hope that this will be good.
Horrible, horrible movies

Well, sorry 'bags -- I fell victim to acting like I'm on the internet. I was just surprised that there were several people in the thread who don't like Super Troopers. I mean... Chandrasekhar drinks an entire bottle of syrup then declaims, "I am all that is man."
Oh, and I'm absolutely livid about Psych.
Likewise, I'm surprised at (and instantly no longer friends with) people when I find out that that did like Super Troopers.Originally Posted by John Roberdeau

I liked Super Troopers :(

Club Dread really was an alarmingly bad movie.
I liked Super Troopers enough that I actually sought out Puddle Cruisers. It had less character than Super Troopers, but I found it pretty watchable. There weresome smugly amusing lines -- one in particular made the experience worth it for me. I find Chandrasekhar amusing as an actor, and I mostly seem to like Broken Lizard's writing. I do definitely hope that Club Dread and not Super Troopers was the real outlier.
I vastly prefered Club Dead.Originally Posted by John Roberdeau

On another forum, the thread played out about like this one. Some guy: "Hey look, this looks awesome!" Almost everyone else: "Club Dread was horrible!"
And then it got surreal. The dude's argument was "Well the only problem with Club Dread was that it had a bad story."
Just let the implications of that argument wash over you for a while.
meh, I loved Super Troopers and Club Dread, so naturally I'll be checking this one out.
I avoided seeing Super Troopers for years because I thought it looked so stupid. I just recently watched it, since a room-mate of mine & friends were watching it. It was stupid, but the delivery was actually pretty good, and I have to admit I enjoyed it. So... I think I'll give this film a chance.
You can have a bad story and still have a good comedy movie. Look at Uncle Buck.
I personally loved Super Troopers. One of the funniest movies I saw that year. There are soooooo many good quotes.
How can you have any sense of humor and not have liked the "meow" scene?
