    DVD burning @ 2.4x speed

No matter what software I use, I cannot burn at speeds less than 4x. Why would I want to? Well, apparently my standalone DVD player won't play DVDs burnt at a speed higher than 2.4x.

    Any suggestions?

You could look for a hacked firmware which allows any speed. Some CD/DVD
burners have lists of what speeds to use for each brand of media in the
firmware. You could unlock 16x for media that's usually 8x, and possibly 2.4x
for newer media that's only listed as 4x/6x/8x.

Have you tried burning to DVD+R after using a tool to flip a bit that marks
the disc as a DVD-ROM? That's another trick I've seen work for some
standalone players. If they recognise a DVD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW identifier,
    they won't always work.

Look for a 'booktype' tool for your burner.

Have you tried different media? Or a different burner? They're cheaper than a 100-pack of DVD's lately.
