Sucks.
Sucks.
I love the blade runner speech.
Yes, that is certainly a comic strip.
Harsh crowd. I thought some of it was pretty good.
I can hardly turn away from the awesome irony that is the huge Darkfall Online banner below that strip.
"Thou, sir, art so money"
OK, but it all bubbles without boiling. There's a spark missing, that might distinguish it. For example, the part where it jokes about what types of people choose their in-game species is obvious. We already know that fat teenagers want to play as female elves. What we do not already know is that Dick Cheney does also. Also, this subject suggests a competent genre artist mocking their chosen field, not generic webcomic cartoon art.
Which, I think, is a symptom shared by 99.99% of internet comic strips. Online comics just reek of a "me too" attitude. There's a few good ones out there authored by real artists who treat their medium as art, but the rest (even many of the successful ones) are just fans trying to get a bit of the action.Originally Posted by Rob Beschizza
I dunno, I thought strips like this one did a good job of capturing the absurdity of these games.
The only strips I've seen that approach that level are like Perry Bible Fellowship ( best exemplified by this and this) or Alien Loves Predator. And both of those succeed because they're not about videogames all of the time.
I've seen some pretty successful one-offs, but no series.

Everyone knows Dinsoaur Comics are the best
All web comics aspire to be Sluggy Freelance.
Perhaps "only" was too strongly worded. "Only ones I can remember while writing this post" would have been more accurate.Originally Posted by Naked_Lunch

Noob was just painfully unfunny.
I dunno, they weren't all good, but I enjoyed ClicheQuest. I'd play a game like that. There isn't enough humor in MMOGs.
PBF is the best webcomic ever.Originally Posted by Lizard_King

Dinosaur comics is often great, but that's definitely a writer's comic. I don't really like the current storyline, but I also read Dr. McNinja. Penny-Arcade deserves credit for being what has inspired all the numerous copycats that litter the web today.
There are other comics that I think, as Lizard_King said, have good one-offs (vgcats) and comics that I admire on a purely visual level (Mac Hall) but the ones listed in the above paragraph are the only ones that give (or have given) me a vibe of any real creative spark.
A really good parody not only pokes fun at something, but also exemplifies its best characteristics. Galaxy Quest, for example, is an shining example of everything that's fun about Star Trek while simultaneously mocking all that is absurd about Star Trek.
Order of the Stick nicely dances this line.
8-Bit Theatre is undisputed champion.

Dr. McNinja is awesome. Thanks.
"Have you ever met a sane hot air balloon pilot?"
"..."
"Don't bother thinking. You haven't. It's that lack of oxygen. Moving on...Do you know who fitness celebrity John Basedow is?"
"Yes. He is a fitness celebrity."
"Tell me he is sane. The man has the jetpack. And he is crazy. It's obvious."
