    Auto maximizing windows? What?

    For some reason, when I click a new link in IE the new window doesn't start off fully maximized. I have no idea why it started doing this, but it happens with every build I do... and it's annoying as hell. Besides running a 3rd party program, is there some Win XP trick to fixing this?

    Once again, thanks for your hardware help QT3! :)

    The closest I can come is to click open a new window. Expand that window to full screen by dragging out the corners (don't simply maximize, physically resize the window). Then click on a link in that new window, and then close it. Now your new windows will be full-screen size, just not maximized.

    Anyway, that's my machine. YMMV.

    I've always wondered about this, but then I switched to Firefox and stopped wondering.

    I've never seen a fix for this and it happens all the time to me. And switching to Firefox doesn't make any difference at all since this isn't an IE-specific problem. It happens with stuff like the Explorer windows, too. But yeah, the only workaround I've seen is to open a window, drag it to full screen, close it and open it again. It should remember the size until the stupid problem happens next time.

    Have you tried opening a window, then pulled down the tools menu?

    tools -->view

    There are all kinds of settings, but the key ones I use are "remember each folder's view settings" and "restore previous folder at logon".

    And don't forget the "Apply to All Folders" button...

    Magic trick #1:

    Resize window to your liking.
    Hold shift key.
    Click on X to close window.

    Magic trick #2 (YMMV)

    Hold shift.
    Resize window.
    Let go of shift.

    That'll be $0.50 please.
