No problem!
well this is the first time a mod has convinced me to repurchase an almost 10 year old game. also thanks for that amazon link brian.
No problem!
I wish GoG or someone would pick up the rights to sell it. I'd like to buy it for this mod, but I just don't do physical media anymore.
Thanks for the support, everyone!
Has anyone tried to install the FW mod lately? I'm a bit confused at the disparity between 19.xx and the 1.65 that displays at the bottom when the mod is running. I also can't get it to start the actual game, although the splash page (which I believe uses the game engine!) runs fine.
I can browse multiplayer, attempt to connect to local, or browse all the options, and I'm scaled properly to 1680x1050, but any attempts to actually launch a game insta-crash. Yes, I did a fresh install of FL (although I haven't ran the CCCleaner thing, I'm wary of registry tweakers) and I've never had a previous FW version on this machine.
Skip the 2006 version and get the demo version of Tides of War that was just released: http://www.moddb.com/mods/fwtow
Hey Brian, here's your clarion call to see if this is worthy or not
It ... is not actually released yet, so that's a problem. :P
Also, MP only; no server is being released with this one, apparently. I'd rather be able to dork around on my own. :/
Yep, seems I got a little ahead of myself on this one -- looks like the 7th is the actual release date.
I played Tides of War a while back, really enjoyed it from what I recall.
Will the full release provide private server support? I, too, want to dork around with myself before dorking with others.
Today, we are proud to present to you the demonstrational package of our mod.
Since it has been taking time for us to finesse the gameplay elements for full release, we wanted to get something out there to our loyal fans. The demo version features prototype systems where you can check out all the ships that will be available in the final build. Also, you can fight in basic NPC battles.
Another reason for a demo release was the opportunity to test our multiple enhancements to the Freelancer graphics engine on a multitude of different systems. Please note that some of our more recent achievements (shadows, distortion mapping, etc..) did not make the final cut. However, rest assured that we will be updating the demo with fixes and improvements. Also, we plan on expanding the demo later on - stay tuned for more details!
But now, have fun flying around and shooting stuff in our demo! Download links below:

From the Freeworlds: Tides of War development team, we thank you for your continued support of this mod.
Can't wait to check this out. Is it actually playable as a sandbox right now? Do missions, get money, trade goods, upgrade, explore?
Apparently not. It's a bunch of hangars in space where you can trade in most of the ships (some are locked out at 3 mil credits, but most cost exactly what you trade in) and check them out in a small sector. There are a few placeholder capital ships placed for size comparison, but that's it.
The docks are empty of anything except the ships to trade and some basic weapons, but I think a lot of the canon ships (TIE fighters, X-Wings) don't even come with modifiable weapons right now.
So yeah, totally tech demo. Fun to check out, but no game yet.
Sorry for the necro but I figured to use this post rather than start something else. Not sure if you guys are aware but the MODDB Mod of the Year awards are on and we'd love to get some voting support if you think the mod is deserving to be in the best upcoming mod category. We'll be posting a plethora of gameplay features/graphic improvements and other things in the next upcoming days so if you are at all interested in the mod, continue to check the site.
Let me know if there are other questions!

Thanks for the tip, I'll post it on the blog, which I hope helps! :-)
I really wish I could find my freelancer copy to play this. It goes for around 25€ here as it is no where to be found. Hope it will be available digitally somewhere. I really do not get why this is not already the case. Rights holder issues?
Good luck in the voting, this mod looks amazing!

Thanks to your support, we made it into the top 100 mods of the year for the 4th straight year in the row.
Help us get into the top 5 upcoming mods of the year! By doing so, we increase the publicity of Freelancer and get more people to shoot at when our mod comes out! Due to your love of Star Wars and Freelancer our little mod made it into PC Gamer (http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/12/10/fr...reelancer-mod/). Lets keep the success going and show the world that Freelancer isn't dead.
We can only do this with your continued support: http://www.moddb.com/events/2012-mod...p100#vote10662
Thank you,
The Freeworlds: Tides of War Development Team
how about making a top released mods list after 4 yearswe made it into the top 100 mods of the year for the 4th straight year in the row.
sheesh
Well, considering this is a hobby for most of us, and considering that most of the team is obtaining, or has obtained, advanced degrees (i'm an emerg doc) the time to complete the mod is sometimes very limited. I can tell you thousands of hours have gone into the mod and we'll release when we feel it's up to snuff to what our public deserves.
We do have a demo for people to play in the meantime, though.
I'm sure what scharmers means to say, sushi, is that we all appreciate your hard work and dedication, and thank you for it. ;)
