I got my wife an Ipod Video for Christmas. I'm trying to find an FM transmitter and a decent case for it, but all I'm finding is stuff that works with up to 4th Gen devices.
Can anyone recommend ones for the Video?

I got the Monster In-Car charger/FM transmitter at Best Buy (Iknow, I know), and it seems to work pretty well. There are two versions at the same price, one that has 6 or 8 "built in" presets (88.1 to 90.1, or some such), and one that is completely programable, with 3 preset saves. For the same money, I don't know why anyone wouldn't go for the fully programable one. Overall, it sounds pretty good in my Jeep Cherokee (stock Stereo), but it seems quite a bit more static-prone in my wife's RX-8.
I picked up a Zcover, based on Mr. Whitta's recommendation (and as there were no other cases available for the 5G at the time), and I really like it, although I have no experience with other cases at all.
I went through two other chargers that didn't work nearly well enough before getting the Monster charger/transmitter combo. It works wonderfully. It's much more expensive than the others, but it was the only thing that would work in my area where every bit of the spectrum seemed to be taken up.
I've got the DLO Transpod FM. It works great. There was a thread on this when I went to look for one 6 months ago or so.
thanks. I assume these FM transmitters DON'T need the remote control slot?
Sadly, though it's terribly uncool, I've found that the cassette adapters are better quality sound than the FM transmitters, and much cheaper. Does her car not have a tape deck?Originally Posted by Mark Crump
I like a flip case-- that way you still protect the screen when it is closed, but you don't have that hard to see through plastic when you are watching video--
actually my flip case has the plastic- i just cut it off- still protected when closed but very seeable when open.
I'm very happy with the zCover. Looks like the 5G iSkins are out now too.

The main reason I want to get her a transmitter is so there's less cable, and she can use it with our boom box in the house.Originally Posted by MikeSofaer
Don't get an FM transmitter if you live in or near a major city; it's virtually impossible to find a vacant frequency that will deliver a clear signal.
Feel free to try it. I did, but I took it back to the store the next day.
I thought this was true, too until I tried the Monster transmitter. The one that plugs into your cigarrette lighter. Worked like a charm.Originally Posted by Gary Whitta
My backyard is 57 acres of woods, owned by a trucker. The nearest major city is about 45-60 min away. I don't live in Ruralville, but it's away from things enough for FM transmitters to not be a problem, I think.Originally Posted by Gary Whitta
Flip Cases- definitely the way to go- keeps the screen open when watching video and completly safe when closed-- you will be much happier with that style. The second case I got was a flip... much better.Originally Posted by shift6
she's going to be using it mostly in the car, I think. Is the flip case practical?
ah, I would say maybe as you will need access to the wheel-- unless you flip the top open THEN plug in the connection to the car stero- the plug will keep the top open and the cover behind the ipod.
I just really like the flp for protecting the screen when it is in my backpack but still allowing full view of the screen when I am watching video without too much hassle.
If you're going to use it in a car, get one of the cradles with the cigarette lighter power source. No cables or nothing. Get in the car, drop it in, drive away.
The leather flip case I linked to has a cut-out in the top, so that it can be plugged in to headphones, and a cutout in the bottom so it can be plugged into stuff in the bottom, both while closed.
My girlfriend just got me the cassette plug-in for my ipod, but then gave me a gift receipt and told me that if I wanted an FM transmitter doohickey I should just go trade it in as they were about the same price at Best Buy.
I don't think I'd use it anywhere but in the car, and I live just outside Boston, so I'm guessing the cassette is the better idea than the FM. Mostly I'm going to use this for the 5 hour drive to PA that I do a couple of times a year.
Any strong feelings/qualms about the cassette plug-in before I open/destroy the plastic packaging that it came in?
The advantage to the FM transmitter is you can use it in your house as well, and it's less cables in the car.
Well, personally I think the 19.99 Monster or whatever they sell at Best Buy is absurdly overpriced. I used a 6.00 Wal Mart Special for the longest time and the sound quality was far superior to any of my friends fm transmitters. I highly recommend it as a reasonable, low maintenance solution.Originally Posted by Dean
I eventually got a direct line in to the back of my car stereo, and while it is noticeably better than the tape, I'd say after using the tape adapter in wife's fancy pants audi that the biggest variable is the quality of the stereo.
