Animal Crossing out: Haul 16 Cherries

    And what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt.
Oh lordy don't you take me yet,
    Because I owweeee my ssouuul,
    to the company store.

Animal Crossing came in a day early than the usual delivery times.

I've never played it's Gamecube cousin, but so far, it's interesting. J Parish used the term relaxing to describe the game, and I can see why. Without a definite goal, a princess to save, a evil jester to defeat, you can just wander around, and talk to people.

    Still owe Tom a crapload.

Anyway, I think this game will be a bit better in terms of WiFi connection. As in, being actuall able to talk to other people.

Not getting this one for another couple days.

Use this thread to trade items, maybe? When more people get the game, that is.

You can use Nintendo WiFi to visit the other towns. It's not like the whole game code to trade items, I don't think.

This one of those "play for a little while every day" games, or can you play for several hours at a time and be doing stuff?

You can play for hours designing patterns and catching fish. Or you can play short periods of time, just enough to dig up fossils and talk to the townsfolk. There is no pressing need to pay off your debt, Tom Nook never breaks your knees with a baseball bat or anything. You just do what you want when you want.

I'm looking forward to connecting to others and seeing my stuff appear in their towns, as well as getting stuff from strangers.

I never understood the charm of the original. In fact I hate you all for unwittingly convincing me to buy AC on the Gamecube. Good god I'd rather watch back-to-back episode of Barney and Telletubbies with some Caillou thrown in for a chaser.

I've never played any of these, but have a friend who swears blind by the series. Then again, he also likes Pokemon...

Would this or Nintendogs be a better gamble for a mostly non-gaming (except some City of Heroes co-op sessions, she seems to enjoy beating things up after exams) wife?

FWIW, my wife's a complete non-gamer, with the sole exception of Animal Crossing, which she's probably logged near a thousand hours on at this point. When I showed her demo clips of Nintendogs, she just looked over at our real dogs and shrugged.

I'm getting her a DS with the new AC for Christmas, so I can actually watch TV again :)

Is anyone having problems with their WiFi Connector from NOA?

I plug it into my comp, and I cannot get internet service. My DS also does not recognize it when I search for a connection. So basically, I have a 40 internet block on my comp when I have the connector in. Any thoughts? Oh, and if there is already a page devoted to this topic, please refer me. Thanks.

    Its very simple actually.

In AC you go to the gates and tell the guy you want to either let people in or go out and he enables the wifi. If you dont have a wifi confg already saved on the DS it will let you set one up from there. Its very very easy.

The DS has WiFi built in. By either using a free WiFi service (a router at home or some business's access point), or Nintendo's WiFi dongle (orderable over the net) you can connect to the service.

The codes everyone is listing are given in every game. They are a combination of the unique ID's of the game cartridge, and the Nintendo DS it is playing on. You exchange these codes in order to play with other people.

For Mario Kart, you can either play random people, or matches with friends. Both sides have to have each other's codes to play.

For Animal Crossing DS, you can visit other people's towns if they open their gates, and you are online. But each side has to have the other's friend codes.

    http://www.nintendowifi.com/global/index.jsp

Here is a site with all of the details. In response to Lenkenobi, make sure you have a router that actually works with the DS. Several models have problems. Also check the error code that the DS gives you, and see what it says.

Yeah, the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection is Bluetooth. It's also a PS2 exclusive.

Well I think the DS to DS connection is a type of bluetooth (with a range of 20feet or something similar) if my understanding of it is correct but as was said above to connect to the intarweb its Wifi.

I met also that which had been her grandmother. For eighty thousand years Pth'thya-l'yi had lived in Y'ha-nthlei, and thither she had gone back after Obed Marsh was dead. Y'ha-nthlei was not destroyed when the upper-earth men shot death into the sea. It was hurt, but not destroyed. The Deep Ones could never be destroyed, even though the palaeogean magic of the forgotten Old Ones might sometimes check them. For the present they would rest; but some day, if they remembered, they would rise again for the tribute Great Cthulhu craved. It would be a city greater than Innsmouth next time. They had planned to spread, and had brought up that which would help them, but now they must wait once more. For bringing the upper-earth men's death I must do a penance, but that would not be heavy. This was the dream in which I saw a shoggoth for the first time, and the sight set me awake in a frenzy of screaming. That morning the mirror definitely told me I had acquired the Innsmouth look.

So far I have not shot myself as my uncle Douglas did. I bought an automatic and almost took the step, but certain dreams deterred me. The tense extremes of horror are lessening, and I feel queerly drawn toward the unknown sea-deeps instead of fearing them. I hear and do strange things in sleep, and awake with a kind of exaltation instead of terror. I do not believe I need to wait for the full change as most have waited. If I did, my father would probably shut me up in a sanitarium as my poor little cousin is shut up. Stupendous and unheard-of splendors await me below, and I shall seek them soon. Ia-R'lyehl Cihuiha flgagnl id Ia! No, I shall not shoot myself - I cannot be made to shoot myself!

I shall plan my cousin's escape from that Canton mad-house, and together we shall go to marvel-shadowed Innsmouth. We shall swim out to that brooding reef in the sea and dive down through black abysses to Cyclopean and many-columned Y'ha-nthlei, and in that lair of the Deep Ones we shall dwell amidst wonder and glory for ever.
-H.P. Lovecraft, The Shadow over Innsmouth

It is really funny to think of the inhabitants of Animal Crossing as twisted servants of darker powers. Sorry.

Bought a fishing rod, and having been challanging my sushi loving wolf neighbor Lobo to fishing contests. While doing that, I caught a particularly rare fish that I sold for over 10k bells! Paid off my house, told Nook to increase the size, and bought a wardrobe to store stuff.

Still need to get a shovel.
