I've got a Halo 2 question: are you still unable to pick which map you want? I hate that it forces you to play maps and games you don't want to play.
Yes, I'm the guy who plays UT Facing Worlds and Halo 1 Blood Gulch 24/7. :)
Ok, I know this is a superficial waste of space topic for those of you not interested, or who don't have XBox Live. I am at the point where the free trial runs out and I want to see if I can have a gaming experience that justifies the price tag for a paid subscription.
Note I don't have a mic/headset, so you won't be hearing me (thank God, right?)
I have the following, and could play anything tonight, say at, 9 PM EST?
Far Cry Instincts
Halo 2
Ghost Recon 2
Crimson Skies
Burnout 3: Takedown
Star Wars Battlefront II
Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes
If you are up, let's see what this thing can do. Gamertag ELGUAPODC.
PM me if you like, or post here.

Hmmm ... you know, this brings up fact that I don't really know how XBox Live works with getting a game together like this. I assume it goes like this:
1. I create a game of [insert title]. Password protect or not.
2. Whoever is joining does the "Optimatch" thing and looks for the server name.
3. You join the server.
I assume that's how it works. Nes pa? I don't think you can do stuff like join the games people on your friends list are playing. At least, not that I've noticed. So, to answer your question, I think we (I, if I'm hosting) could pick whatever map we want. The new Blood Gulch (whatever it's called) is fun.
That's assuming we play Halo 2 though . . . there are lots of other great games up there.
In Halo 2, you can do games with your friends 2 ways:
Join a party and have the party leader join one of the hoppers (can't choose map)
or
Have the party leader create a custom game, but you won't be able to play against people you don't know.
Also, if you create a custom game, you can join the game in progress as long as there is room and party isn't invite only.
That sucks, I really hope they fix that for Halo 3. Don't force me to play games I don't want in order to play games that I do.
I would recommend picking up a copy of Battlefield 2: Modern Combat if you haven't played it on PC. My desktop can't run it (the crappy old Dell that it is), but I've really enjoyed the xbox live version. It doesn't feel as crisp as BF1942, but the run and gun battles are enjoyable, the kits are great fun (I love the spec ops), and the maps are very good for anything over 4 on 4. I've also been able to start the game and find an active server without much trouble, so it seems to have a community following. Most importantly to me, I feel like I'm playing a BF game when I'm playing it.
I would say Xbox 1 is silently drifting through its Golden Age right now. With games like Halflife 2, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Farcry, Call of Cthulu, Shattered Union, Prince of Persia 3, the Warriors, there's never been a better time to own an Xbox. I hope the prices on these games will be slashed at some point and I can pick a few more up.
edit: to include PoP
Not if it's a competitive game with rankings. Sure, playing with your friends pick whatever the hell you want to, that's whayt you can do with the non-ranked games in Halo2. But if you're trying to show you're the best damn player out there then don't play the same map and same gametype 100 times.Originally Posted by Jazar
I really, really like the matchmaking in Halo2.
We need to find a good Xbox 360 game we have critical mass of and have QT3 night on it... :)
Seems like a few people have been playing that "Xbox 360 Dashboard" game of late...
