If they kill Bobby, they better have a fan-fucking-tastic story to follow it up to make his death worth while.
Well....fuck...
If they kill Bobby, they better have a fan-fucking-tastic story to follow it up to make his death worth while.
Haven't we been here before?
Also, the local CW station can eat my ass with a damned wooden spoon. I had to watch the scenes from next week to understand what happened. Granted, I kind of saw it coming near the end of the episode, but still - bad form, Houston area CW affiliate.
What'd they do, show a local sporting event instead?
Some dipshit in the booth flipped the switch to cut to commercial early. The last scene that I got before I started seeing local promos for the News Fix was Dean about halfway finished asking if everybody was okay with no reveal shot.
It's a testament to the show that I didn't really need the reveal to get where they were going (there was only one reason for recognizable leviathan boss to be shooting a gun at a fleeing van and for them to have specifically focused on Bobby struggling the door closed), but this is sadly not an entirely uncommon experience. The difference is, it usually happens on our Fox affiliate in the middle of a show, when one random idjit or another is just blah blah blahing about performing a rectal hysterectomy or not stabbing a dinosaur in the eye.
What about the episode. I loved Bobby Zen hunter.... closes eyes.. grasps the universe... and plugs the jersey devil in the tree :)
Also I gotta get me a Turducken sandwich.. Dean was just nailing the comedy in the early part of the episode... and bibbing?? :) brilliance.
Bobby NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Great episode. I hope they don't cheapen it by undoing it somehow.
Agreed.
Dear Supernatural Writer Peoples: Don't Star Trek 3 this up.
I fear that's what will happen, though...they were very careful to leave themselves an out. If Bobby chooses not to pass on, then he'll exist in our world in some sort of spirit form that Sam and Dean will inevitably have to investigate/battle. At that point, the chance for magical resurrection is present.
I hope they don't restore him to life, because that was a great episode and would be an excellent final chapter for Bobby. On the other hand, I hope they DO restore him, because I love the character of Bobby so much. Very conflicted.
That wasn't so much of an out if you remember the Jo episode of the fifth season. The way this room seems to like to end major supporting characters isn't with a body.
There is, of course, always the chance for magic. This show operates under comic book rules, which is to say that nobody's really dead except for Gwen Stacy, and I'd be surprised if we didn't meet Ghost Bobby at some point if it gets another season.
Also, I'd like to call out that Reaper. Good job playing that one role you've ever gotten where you're not some conjugation of Eastern Bloc Mafia Assassin. You deserve more variety in your work.
Was the guy playing the reaper the same guy playing a reaper on Grimm?
Yes. But it's a different kind of reaper. Because, you see, and this is great, because, I mean, I almost can't contain myself, but on NBC he's a GRIMM REAPER. Get it? Because that's why they're called that thing that they're called. How do they think these things up? Crazy people. Just crazy.
I can't seem to remember his accent from that show, though. That poor guy always seems to end up playing random murderers from Eastern Europe, and I want to say that his appearance on Grimm just continued that sad trend. I might be projecting, though, because I apparently have a bad habit of remembering only the first role that I see any actor in. Had to get on the internet and scroll through five years of credits to figure out that the director on Leverage was John Abruzzi from Prison Break.
I hate to say it, but I'm getting a real "end of series" vibe from this season of Supernatural. The two most important supporting characters they've ever had, Castiel and Bobby, are both gone. Obviously, on a show like this, nothing prevents their return, but if the writers don't bring them back, I think it's game over. The loss of John Winchester, Jo, Ellen, Ash, and so on was trivial. Bobby and Castiel are right up there with Sam and Dean at the top of the list of what has made this series great, and without them I just don't think there are enough interesting character interactions amongst the remaining cast to carry the show.
Well....errr.....
Spoiler: casting
Like Buffy and Angel before it, Supernatural is the kind of show that strikes me as having the ability to drop characters and readd them because, while the serial storyline is important, it's not the most important thing about the show. Now, I could still see it getting canceled, particularly if Deadman actually gets to pilot and screens well, but if it's performing well enough, I don't think that the creative angle will keep it from getting renewed.
The returning actor could also be not as his 'real' character. For example, the Leviathans can appear as anyone they have touched. Flashbacks from prior storylines, dreams, and all that kind of thing can account for an actor's return as well,.
Yeah, and that's what I had already concluded was the most likely way in which the spoiler Brian posted would occur. I still maintain that Supernatural needs more than a couple episodes out of both these guys to succeed over the long haul. You mention Buffy--the loss of Bobby and Castiel in Supernatural would be equilvant to the loss of Xander, Giles, and Willow, which never happened. Buffy's core survived the entire run of the show, and Angel was the same (Wesley died only in the last episode; Fred "died" sooner but morphed into Illyria, Cordie left for RL pregnancy but still returned for the end).
I just saw last weeks episode, and god damn did I cry. I honestly hope Bobby decides to move on. It'll break my heart, but he deserves to rest, not be a spirit or anything. Fantastic fucking episode that, yes, I hope they don't Star Trek 3 up. This season so far as been on fucking fire.
Supernatural is back tonight, yay! And finally, after a year of on-and-off watching, my girlfriend is all caught up! Woohoo!
It is? Sweet!
Right?!
Over xmas break I started watching this with the family and got through 1.5 seasons. It's a fun diversion, but there was a strong difference between the monster-of-the-week episodes vs. the mythos arc. Monster-of-the-week was fun, by the numbers scary shit that we all loved. The mythos arc wasn't scary at all.
All the stories that involved elements that you could understand (or, even worse, you saw it from their point of view) were really not that tense or interesting. All the stories where everything was a big unknown were great scary fun.
Huh, I thought it all had a great mixture of tension, fear and humor whether mytharc or MOTW episodes.
The point you're at is good, but when Castiel shows up, it becomes great.
The arc gets better once they completely get over the dad storyline, which I could swear doesn't happen until the second season because I thought that was when Jeffery Dean Morgan's movie career briefly took off, and the third season suffers a little for the strike that interrupted it in the middle. Starting with 4, I'd put the overall arc through 5 up there with the best I've ever seen.
Great ep last night, really what was needed after the previous ep.
I always enjoy a good Dean-centric episode, and that was one, yeah. The girl they found to play the hunter's daughter was also excellent in the role.
Oh totally, and how awesome was Frank's speech to Dean about being a professional. I totally choked up at the end of the ep when Dean was trying to follow Frank's advice.
Sam also handled the sitch exactly like you'd expect him to, burying it deep and plowing through.
