    The Slayers - Anime

If you like light-hearted adventuring this is the anime for you! Trust me! I've watched all 3 TV series way too many times to count!

I have not yet seen Slayers, but I'd like to recommend Revolutionary Girl Utena, if you like anime. It isn't very light-hearted though..

I've seen a few episodes of Slayers, and it is definitely light-hearted and fairly goofy at times, but a lot of fun. As with all anime, though, I recommend seeing the sub-titled versions rather than the dubbed versions. I haven't seen the dubbed version of Naga, but I'm not quite sure how the American voice actress could duplicate that laugh.

Dubbed and Subbed versions of Naga are both scary. I admit I would rather watch the three Slayers TV series since it has my favorite character, the justice loving Amelia. Smash the Evil with a Hammer of Justice. Her dad is pretty fucking funny too.

If anyone is interested in checking out slayers the following is out on dvd:

    The Slayers
    The Slayers NEXT
    The Slayers TRY
Slayers: The Motion Picture (Naga-fied movie, but good)
Slayers: Book fo Spells (3 OVA episodes w/Naga)

Slayers Premium is also out as a fansub, nice little 30 minute episode that takes place AFTER Try.

Slayers Next has the best filler eps and Xellos rocks.
Slayers TRY has the best story arc and some really cool fights.
The original is a must see simply because it fills in all the backgrounds for the characters, and the first Amelia/Phil episode is friggin priceless.

Im a big Slayers Nut :)

I used to really enjoy Slayers several years back. I actually never got around to watching Try or a few of the later OVA series, but my personal favorite Slayers production I have seen is by far the third motion picture, Slayers Great.

Completely over the top and ridiculous, this movie is absolutely hilarious. The mecha battle between Lina and Naga is priceless. Any and all Slayers fans needs to see this movie.

    Slayers Rocks!

The animation quality is very very bad if you are expecting 24 or even 18 frames a second. This is typical slideshow-style TV anime framerate, with only crucial scenes fully animated.

The first few episodes in each 26 episode story arc (!!!) are so silly it may turn you off too.

But if you stick with it, it is not only hilarious, but it is even interesting. From time to time, they even manage a little bit of catharsis and emotional affect.... The consistency from episode to episode of all the various spells and powers and strengths of opponents and so on is remarkable. It's almost like they actually put thought into this series, unlike the usual magic or sci-fi movie or animation, where no matter how supposedly serious it is, people can just pull new power out of their butts whenever they want.

    Darkness beyond twilight
Crimson beyond the blood that flows
Buried in the depths of time
In thy great name I pledge myself to darkness
Let the fools who stand against me be DESTROYED!
    DRAGON SLAVE!

Slayers is my favorite anime series, including much more serious and expensive efforts like Cowboy Bebop. I enjoy the characters, the plots, and pretty much everything about the series apart from the weak animation quality.

Oh yeah, get the 4 DVD boxed sets with 26 episodes, not the single-disk OAVs or whatever, they are not really as good.

I don't feel like starting a new thread, but here seems as good a place as any. Cartoon Network announced some new aquisitions and it looks like they'll be showing Trigun during Adult Swim and Ruroni Kenshin during Toonami. I'm especially happy about Kenshin. They've got all 95 (I think that's the right number) episodes, and let's face it. I was never going to be able to buy all the DVDs. But I really wanted to see the whole series. I got my hands on the first 16 episodes as fansubs a few years ago (the old fashion, 3rd generation VHS dub kind even!) and loved it.
