    Who are your favorite & least fav modern Star Trek char'

    I've long been curious about what's made some of the modern Star Trek shows better than the others (in liu of Star Trek Enterpise being cancelled), and I think it wholly has to do with the characters (and Rick Berman - American Idiot). So in this thread, post your favorite and least favorite modern Star Trek characters, and if your feeling wordy, post why...

    My favorites:

    * Data.............................. (ST-TNG)
    * Jean Luc Picard............... (ST-TNG)
    * Geordi La Forg................ (ST-TNG)
    * Worf............................... (ST-TNG)
    * Beverly Crusher.............. (ST-TNG)
    * Quark............................. (ST-DS9)
    * The Doctor...................... (ST-V)
    * Chakotay......................... (ST-V)
    * Harry Kim........................ (ST-V)

    Those I hated:

    * Wesley Crusher................ (ST-TNG)
    * Kira Nerys........................ (ST-DS9)
    * Julian Bashir..................... (ST-DS9)
    * Kathryn Janeway<--- ruined series for me.... (ST-V)
    * Entire cast of Star Trek Enterprise.. (ST-E)

    For myself I can of see a correlation between identifiable well-made characters, and the success of the series.

    For the old Star Trek, I pretty much like everyone a lot... especially Cpt Kirk, McCoy, and Spock.

    "I'm not dead yet."

    Fans of Star Trek will have the chance to explore the final frontier in a multi-player online game based on the hugely popular TV series.
    Games firm Perpetual Entertainment has secured the rights to develop the game which will allows thousands of trekkers to immerse themselves in the world of the United Federation of Planets.

    The 24th century universe being brought to life by Star Trek Online will launch considerably earlier, in 2007.

    It could attract millions of players.

    personally i liked ds9 for their characters, but also for the relationships.
    bashir and garak >> by themselves
    kira and kai wynn >> by themselves

    i liked kira and bashir. sisko because he had one of the more effective leadership styles and how he grew to believe in the prophets. o'brien since he has the average family guy thing going on.

    the evil kai, the good original one, the prophets(though technically they change appearance and are played by different actors each time), garak the cardassian tailor and his dad, the weyoun clones (played by jeffrey combs), dukat (both pre and post insanity).

    DS9 had awesome characters.

    I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Kes in the most disliked list.

    Mine would be:

    Kes
    Nogg
    Tasha Yar
    Troi (first couple of seasons)
    Seven of Nine (mostly for dominating the show)

    Oddly enough, I actually like the cast of Enterprise more or less. Then again, I haven't been subjected to them all that often.

    Odo was my favourite. Though, that came more from reading the DS9 books than watching the show.

    Still, Odo was pretty badass.

    Captain Jean Luc Picard of the U.S.S Enterprise would be my favourite. :D

    ( Yes, I know everyone has heard it, but it's awesome. So there. )

    I loved the entire DS9 cast. That was one of the biggest strengths of that show over the other Star Trek series, IMO. They even had two of my favorite TNG characters (O'Brian and Worf).

    Pretty much the entire cast of Enterprise and 90% of the cast of Voyager were just awful though. Voyager at least had The Doctor and Chakotay.

    Is Kes that child/woman on Voyager? I don't like her either. I don't like any of the Voyager characters actually, except maybe the Vulcan (don't know his name...guess you can see how much I watch it).

    I like all the DS9 characters, with the possible exception of Kako, who never really does enough and just seems to be background.

    For TNG, I like all the characters except Wesley and Q (he annoys me, not in a good way). Oh, and Troi annoys the hell out of me in the first season, but after that, she isn't so bad. Data can also be annoying at times, especially in the movies when he has emotions. I'm not a fan of Spiner.

    For original, I am not a huge fan of Kirk or McCoy. Kirk is the worst stereotype of macho men and McCoy overplays his role as foil to Spock's logic. He has that constant surprised/annoyed/stunned/incensed look on his face too. That's off-putting.

    I've never seen Enterprise.

    Interesting fact: 9 out of 10 child molesters* caught in North America are hard core trekkies - with the suits, fake phasers, tendency to visit conventions etc.

    Just saying...

    *According to an interview with a kiddie-porn cop I read in the LA times.

    next you'll be telling me the stereotypical serial murderer is an over educated white male.

    btw, was it 90% of child molesters or 90% of stalkers? because i remember one stalking story where a cop was doing a woman a favor and trying to scare a guy from stalking her and saw his apartment was full of star trek stuff.

    My least favorite characters? Captain Archer and Doctor Phlox.

    I've never really bought into the idea of Scott Bakula being threatening enough to do scenes where he tries to intimidate the enemy into some course of action. I've also always thought John Billingsley's character was written a bit over-the-top for my tastes, though I suspect it's a writing problem versus the actor.

    But the moment where they became my absolute least favorite Star Trek characters was episode 13, "Dear Doctor", where they both let millions of people suffer and die all because that race can't fly around the universe fast enough for Archer's tastes.
