I bought this this weekend and am having fun with it. I've now taken to carrying a two handed axe and using it on a horse... ehh... ok, but fun! I can take down 3 in a pass, if I'm lucky.

I wish it had Die By The Sword dismemberment though. That was fun, even if I only ever got it by chance.

There's a .632 patch out now that fixes the negative gold problem. Not sure what else it tweaked.

This thread is on the top list of google hits for Mount and Blade.

    Taleworlds.com is not.

    Odd.

    Not at all.

Note their page title. Not a good one, they should throw in Mount and Blade, rather than compressing it like that. Also, their body text includes no 'mount and blade' in <.h1.> tags (remove dots) and their body text compresses the game name as well.

No idea, most forums won't get indexed but I guess the bots ran past the forums and made it in. The large number of keywords, the name in the links.. hard to say. Might be that this thread is linked to from other places as well (no idea why that would be tho)

I don't think this particular thread needs to be linked in order to raise its googlerank. I think any links to Qt3 will boost the ranking.

Indeed, it's just not thaaatt common to see boards get googled much, especially over a web page.

My QT3 profile here is 3rd google rank for the name "Roger Wong". 2nd place is my photo.net profile.

1st place goes to some art design genius named Roger Wong who is not related to me.

Maybe I just suck at this game but I don't understand how all you guys are killing so many people on horseback. I can't hit jack.

(I am using a watered steel scimitar and a war shield).

I was trying to use a lance for a while and I couldn't hit anything with that either. Also I could never get it to couch (can you not couch with a shield?)

I can do way more damage on foot than on horseback....

No, you can never have enough ninja zombie robots(if they are giant sized it is even cooler).

Just got the game this weekend, I am all about lances, they are amazing.

Couching is easy, just don't do anything, once the horse is at a certain speed the tip drops, and it is now couched. You can only aim it by turning the horse, but it's almost always a 1-hit knockout with a jousting lance (how's your prisoner management skill?)

Overall a nice engine and fun battles, now all that is needed is a more live world and some polishing and there's a good game there.

I think you also need to have a horse that can reach a certain speed before the lance is couched.

^ - yes. Start with ridding 2 and you'll have a horse that's fast enough.

I have played this game for 20 hours so far. That's $.50 an hour... haven't had a gaming bargain like that in a long time.

I've decided that HORSE ARCHERY is the bizzity bomb. I get my nice bow, 2 packs of arrows, and my watered-steel scimitar just in case I run out of arrows. And a horse with Charge 30. There's nothing like shooting a guy in the face and then running him over. I like this much more than the lance, because it seemed like with a lance I couldn't do any damage against the guys unless I was charging. So if I got knocked off my horse I was screwed. Then again I guess my polearm skill was pretty low.

Is there any way to get more than 3 heroes (apart from hacking the game?)

Yeah, my merchant character is a horse archer. It's a lot of fun galloping around enemies and pumping arrows into them. My favorite part of it is when a horseman gets on your tail and you turn and give them an arrow in the face. I just use a large quiver of bodkin (+3 damage) arrows, though. I rarely run through 25, and I like having access to a shield.

No. Outside of hacks, Marnid and Borcha are it for now.

I'm not sure about this, but it seems like if you have extra horses in your inventory, the game allocates them to your higher-level units that would not otherwise be mounted, at the start of combat.

At least, I have seen a couple of mounted Hired Blades and Sword Sisters in my party when I was carrying around extra horses. (First time I've had a Sword Sister but someone above said they're not a mounted unit).

I wonder if this works for other heroes' inventories too... hmmm.

Or, maybe it's just an XP thing... maybe a Hired Blade with tons of XP gets a horse, etc.

Hired Blades and Sword Sisters are both mounted (Sword Sisters just got horses in the last patch), but it seems there's a percentage chance for each mounted unit to actually get a horse in battle.

Hmm, the probability for Hired Blades must be really low then... it seems I had 6 or 7 of them who all ran around on foot most of the time.

Yeah, that's probably the biggest downside for them. My Swadian Knights seem to always get horses, but Hired Blades have much better stats.

I think having extra horses in your inventory only mitigates the effects of carrying lots of heavy items, like trade goods.

    Version 0.700 is out.

    armagan's digest of changes:

    # A lot of code has been re-written internally. Many things that were hard-coded into the engine are data driven now, so that both modders and us can work on those as needed.
    # New Terrain types: snow and steppe.
    # Terrain fits map position. Hilly near mountains, many trees in forests etc..
    # New and improved weather model.
    # Improvements to the face generator.
    # Bastard sword can be wielded one-handed now.
    # Hunting crossbow and light crossbow can be reloaded on horseback.
    # Made melee combat AI more challenging.
    # You can now store stuff in the chest in Zendar tavern.

    Mmm, snow.

Apparently forest bandits, in an actual forest (on world map and now on combat map), will now dominate a better-armed mounted party. Cool.

Sounds good. I was just noodling around with Mount & Blade again last week, as a matter of fact.

Guess I'll find out if the old saves will work.

I am gonna go try it but... wow, that change list sounds kinda underwhelming, considering how long it's been and how incomplete the game was.

Still I am hopeful, and gonna go download it.

I think the big change in this one is the one about making things more easily moddable. I was checking out the boards for M&B the other day, and I read something about how he was making the mod-ability the higher priority. That's probably a good idea, since that way he can get other people to provide some 'content' for nothing.

I still love playing this game, nothing like a crossbow head-shot from long range...

Well... I played it for about 2 hours, and as a player, I noticed almost nothing that made the game better.

I did notice the more difficult melee combat, but that didn't make combat more fun -- the big problem with combat right now is the strategic AI, which is almost nonexistent. If anything, that took a step down for this version (though it's likely it hasn't changed, and it just seems like it's worse).

The extra couple of battlefield styles don't really do anything for the game either. What was really needed there was higher-level battlefield construction logic -- making the settings more interesting, not starting you out on the sides of ridiculously steep slopes, etc.

And there are definite changes for the worse -- you can't hit escape to leave places any more, and some of the NPCs are in screwed up locations. And it's more of a pain to exit Zendar than ever.

Maybe all the rewriting for moddability will help them develop the game more easily and a big burst of new stuff will come forth. I'm hoping for that, but it seems like a slim hope.

The town stuff in M&B annoyed the piss out of me. I wish they had a simple text menu for everything, but noooo they want you to walk around.

Note: walking around a town is boring unless you can do cool stuff... rob people, climb in windows, steal stuff, etc etc, but dammit, if I just want to sell my phat lewt and leave town, please let me do that quickly.
