Wow, sweet. Let's hope it's not another decent RTS that isn't played because it's not made by Ensemble or Blizzard.Originally Posted by Brian Rubin
Wholly CRAP! A new Seven Kingdoms game has been announced! Gamespot and GamersHell have the news!
This is very exciting. For me, Seven Kingdoms II is one of those titles that never leaves my hard drive. It's in my top 5 of favorite all-time RTS titles. This is so awesome! Can you tell I'm excited? ;)

Agree! (Would add Westwood to those two though)Originally Posted by SlyFrog
Would be really good if some new idea's made it through to the general public.
Great games like Kohan II ect are just sufocated by the big name advertising power :( Sad really. Not that those big name games are bad, but there's so much more!
Very cool news. I played alot of Seven Kingdoms, seems like it was a long long time ago. I remember trying over and over to infiltrate one of my guys into the opposing army and hoping one mole becomes a leader.
I was able to pull this off a couple of times, but it's not easy. It's wonderful when it does happen, however.Originally Posted by VegasRobb
Holy crap! I was like, 'So what?' when I first saw this post, then you guys reminded me of this. I pulled this off once too, but by that time my winning was already a forgone conclusion.Originally Posted by Brian Rubin
Nit impressed by the screenshots. The gameplay better be improved from 7k2 for me to consider buying this.
7k1 was fun- nvy ai was dead. 7k2 was fun, but the gameplay was too fast with not enough focus on alternatives to using sheer force to win. The maps also felt very "flat"- nothing interesting on them. Just mass your most experienced army and have at the enemy.
I liked Seven Kingdoms and Seven Kingdoms II a lot, but this game sounds like it's going to have no relationship to them at all in terms of gameplay. Note what the designer says about the economic model (vastly simplified) and micromanagement (shooting for non-existent) in this interview with Steve Fawkner. It's hard to imagine Trevor Chan having any input into a game like that, and in any case it certainly doesn't sound like a Seven Kingdoms game to me. Color me skeptical.
What? Where? Who? Why? Steve Fawkner is the lead designer of 7K3? The Steve Fawkner, formerly of SSG and the Warlords series?
Hmm, looks like I'll have to look out for the game... I didn't like Trevor Chan's original games so as far as I'm concerned the change of lead designer is a good thing.
Edit: Yes, it's indeed the same Steve Fawkner. I had forgotten that Infinite Interactive was the name of his new company. And I like what he says about reducing micromanagent and give the game some semblance of backstory... the first two games were huge piles of arbitrary features, a prime example of complexity for its own sake.
Considering the hack job that was done to the Settlers series, I would be extremely wary of any dumbing down of 7K...
Yes, this is the kind of thing I'm worried about. Fawkner can yammer on all he wants to about how he's retaining the "spirit of Seven Kingdoms," but the game as he describes it sounds like anything but Seven Kingdoms. That may be a good thing for guys like Christopher, but it's a bad thing for those who liked the SK games.Originally Posted by TrodKnee
Whenever a designer talks about how he/she's adhering to the "spirit of Game X" while changing the gameplay, look out. There are exactly zero examples I can think of where the resultant game felt anything like the game it was supposedly adhering to the spirit of.
