Oblivion's about the only thing I'm looking forward to.
Don't have too many this year, especially as compared to last year but here' it goes:
Guild Wars (PC 04/18/05): Simply love this game. Every time I've had the chance to play it has been fantastic. NCSoft is doing pretty well.
STALKER (PC 05/14/2005): I want this game oh so badly, but I'm afraid it will fall into the "we've bitten off more than we can chew" design category and slip again. This was also voted the "Mike Cathcart will buy this game because it reminds him of his hobbies instead of the games content" game of the year.
F.E.A.R. (PC 06/07/05): The game video is extremely creepy and there's a lot of cool effects.
Animal Crossing (DS 09/12/05): Awesome
Advance Wars DS (DS 10/09/05): This game cannot get here soon enough. I hope that both this and Animal Crossing use the full potential of the DS.
The wish list:
Gothic 2: Night of the Raven (PC): Man, I wish this would get a wide US release.
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC): Would love to see this game this year.
That's about it this year, but let me throw a honorable mention out there for a return title:
NARC(XBOX 03/01/05): OH SNAP
Oblivion's about the only thing I'm looking forward to.
Stalker
Serious Sam 2
Dungeon Siege 2
Jade Empire
Fear
Quake 4
Age of Empires 3
I'm really looking forward to Battlefield 2 and Jade Empire. Oblivion, Age 3, and Dragon Age are others that I'm hoping make it out this year. GT4 will be at the top of my list as soon as they implement online play. I'm hoping that there will be a HL2 expansion released sometime this year as well.
Another reason I make these threads is that I like to be reminded about stuff I forgot. I am looking forward to Battlefield 2 and Jade Empire as well. AoE is cool too
limiting my list to PC games, here are the new titles I'm anxious to see:
- Battlefield 2
- Brothers in Arms
- Dreamfall: Longest Journey 2
- FEAR
- The Movies
- STALKER
- SWAT 4
Not to mention two ports:
- GTA: San Andreas
- KOTOR 2
edit: I should add Quake IV, but I'm not yet convinced it'll be 2005.
Oh yeah, good call on The Movies. Can't believe I missed that one seeing as how I'm the biggest Stunt Island fan around there here parts.
I was hopefull about Brothers in Arms, but the latest previews and interviews have really focused on the authenticity of the locations and battles. Excessively so. They are apparently making authenticity their top priority with the title. This worries me because I've never heard an actual WWII vet described the war as a "jolly good time that they'd spend $50 on to relive again and again." He's hoping they don't forget to plant the fun seeds before they ship it out the door.
Only one thing shall I look forward to next year and thats Civilization 4...
I'm looking forward to Psychonauts and Destroy All Humans.
And I'm looking forward to playing all the games I bought in 2004 but didn't play because I was too busy playing World of Warcraft.
They Came From Hollywood? :D
Damn you balut, I was going to be all snappy and say "One word, TCFH" Hmm, ok, yeah, i'm looking forward to The Movies, Destroy all Humans, Stronghold 2, Long Journey 2, and Trash.
I figure I'll also need to play a lot of titles from 2004. The only PC releases I've really played this year have been Rome: TW, UT 2004, and Battlefield Vietnam.
Imperial Glory should be good.
The Movies should be interesting.
TCFH should be finished.
Troy
In no particular order:
Zelda: Minish Cap
Resident Evil 4
Jade Empire
FEAR
Final Fantasy XII
Dragon Quest 8 (if it makes it over here)
Castlevania DS
The PSP
Yoshi's Touch and Go
SWAT 4
Dreamfall
New Zelda Cube Game
Fire Emblem Sequel
Advance Wars DS
I checked out the site, and it looks like they have made a lot of really interesting choices. Are you in the beta? How/where did you hear about this game?Trash.
I forget where I first heard about it, I think it was because it was entered into the IGF a few years back. I am in the beta and have enjoyed it quite a bit so far, but I'm not a real RTS guy, so take it with a grain of salt.
Drop them an email referencing this thread and see if they'll let you in the beta, i'm pretty sure they will.
I am waiting for Quake 4 and The Matrix Online to be total trash.
Phantom Kingdom (hybrid of Phantom Brave and Disgaea) PS2
Castlevania DS (sold me the DS)
Final Fantasy XII
GTA: SA Xbox
Advance Wars DS
Super Mario Bros. DS
The New Zelda
Only thing I'm going to add to all this is Forza Racing and Gran Turismo 4.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Silent Hunter III
Dangerous Waters
Elder Scrolls IV
SWAT 4
Oblivion looks awesome. I really hope its not as buggy as Morrowind was, though.
Unreal Championship 2 looks like it has promise, but I really don't like how their making fighting / Mortal Kombat a focus of it. Melee is cool, but lets leave it at "kicking ass by deflecting rockets", and not MK-style "combos" or "finishing moves".
F.E.A.R. - Ever since SS2, I've been looking for a really deep atmospheric shooter. This looks like its gonna help that taste.
STALKER - The AI looks really brilliant, and hopefully this game can make some intense moments without relying too much (or at all) on scripting.
The Movies - lets hope PM can produce a hit this time.
GTA: SA Xbox/PC
Quake 4
Guild Wars
Dungeon Siege 2 (though I don't know why since the first disappointed me)
Middle Earth Online (curious more than anything)
City of Villains (this coule be hot)
DND Online (kind of think it won't be out this year though)
That's about it. Sort of interested in AOE3 though it's hard to get excited about an RTS these days. I am less and less interested in shooters as well, but that FEAR game looks interesting.
Are there any turn-based strategy games coming out for the PC besides CIv 4? Dominions 3 could be good but I get the feeling it's just Dominions 2 with more units and kingdoms.
I'm really interested in seeing what happens to the PC game industry. I think there will be a big MMO shakeout with more games in progress cancelled and some existing games going under. I expect Shadowbane will be toast if EA buys Ubi. I wouldn't be surprised to see AC2 killed. I think we'll see server mergers in EQ and possibly DAoC if their server cluster thing doesn't work.
Beyond MMOs, I'm curious to see how many PC titles are announced that are PC-only games. Further, out of that smaller pie, I am curious to see how many PC-only titles are announced that aren't shooters or RTS games. I'm guessing I'll be able to count those without taking off my shoes.
Agreed, and based on the movies I've seen I think this game is turning out well. They are focusing on deathmatch moreso than a true fighting game experience. It reminds me a lot of Halo 2 MP, except everyone has a Plasma sword, a shotgun, and a gold medal in gymnastics.Originally Posted by Mattc0m
Oi, I can't believe I forgot Crashday. Maybe I'm just pissed they still haven't released a new gameplay movie. So yeah, they need to hurry up and release it :) heheOriginally Posted by JD
