Rehnquist is quite possibly the worst of the Supremes. I am not sure if Thomas or Rehnquist make me more nervous.
POE yesterday has the wonderful headline:
Rehnquist Has Cancer, Hooray For Cancer!
Now, I am no huge fan, but I have to give you kudos for representing all that is wrong with American political discussion lately. Thank you, sir, for being a shining light of decorum in these tough times. I am certain that your rabid frothing will attract many of the ignorant masses which dare to disagree with your views, especially those who have perhaps lost a loved one to cancer.
Bravo, sir, bravo.
Rehnquist is quite possibly the worst of the Supremes. I am not sure if Thomas or Rehnquist make me more nervous.
Surely Scalia is the worst, no?
I loved the headline, personally. I've had family membres die badly of cancer, but there ARE people I'd wish it on.
Also, this just in: Wishing works.

Another well reasoned and intelligent contribution from Bitterman. How dare you speak ill of someone, Chet? Honestly. Rehnquist has been a paragon of virtue, fighting the good fight. Oh wait... no he hasn't. His stated goal has been to rollback many of the Warren court's most humane and admirable advancements. Cancer couldn't have happened to a more deserving chap. Moore has it right... there are people that you can justifiably wish cancer upon.
In Anaxoragas' world, everyone is either a paragon of virtue or deserves to die of cancer.Originally Posted by Anaxagoras

I wouldn't wish cancer on Rehnquist, but I have hoped that he'd fall into a pit filled with ticks on several occasions.
Ah, false dichotomy. I do so love when people bring you into an argument.Originally Posted by Ben Sones

In fact, I think most people fall into this category. Yes, that's right! There's a grey area in between the two extremes that I often place people in. Still following me, Ben?
Good. To be honest, I don't care how Rehnquist leaves power. If he simply had the good grace to resign, then I'd be perfectly happy. But he appears to have zero intention of doing so. So, if nature gives us an out, who am I to complain?
Yeah, I'm going with the ticks. Or maybe Gitmo "torture" if it's not as bad as everyone says.
There's nothing like gleefully reveling in the news of another person's terminal illness to raise the tone of the discussion.
Anax, I like you better when you try to be an ivory tower intellectual. Please go back that and quit trying to play "I can judge who deserves to die" Hitleresque monster. Thanks.
I know what a "mixed bag" is. And if I never read it again in a fucking game review, it will be too soon.

Fanatics are ugly people.
For the record, I never wished cancer on him. But if cancer wants to jump on him, who am i to fight nature? To fight god's will? So I celebrate the beauty and complexity of the world god has created, and you guys attack me?
Why do you hate god so much?

You mean, when he tries to be; at best he's a paperweight intellectual. When, as is frequently the case, reason fails him, he relies on insults, name-calling, and now, wishing death on those who don't meet his approval.Originally Posted by Nick Walter

Tabloid antics are Chet's schtick. I think he's better than that, but he apparently disagrees. He probably doesn't have a plan for moving away from it so he continues.
I used to be like Anaxagoras, as previously stated. I was a smart guy, a wise guy, an asshole. I ran completely over people's feelings, not really because I was an asshole but because I thought of people as weak and needing a "dose of truth" so to speak, and the rampaging was my way of waking people up to "reality". When they complained I got bitter that I wasn't being "understood".
Basically, it was an attempt to dominate them. What made me turn away from this was when I succeeded. What I thought would be good... my domination of them and therefore their "improvement" by means of taking on my own truths turned out to be false. What happens is that a human only *seems* to take on my truths... they imitate the truths. Unless they *understand* my truths, they can only imitate. By imitation, the truths are a shallow falsified nothing.
And there they are, shattered and flailing, a fish out of water. Imitating truths of which they have at best a limited understanding.
Humans are better off with their own truths then with a shallow imitation, even if the shallow imitation is of a far greater truth!
So, back to the drawing board, I determined that first and foremost the point was communication... to allow for understanding. Understanding became my new mantra, domination at most a minor application. The Domination/Imitation Duology rested after its failed experiment...
Okay, I admit it now, cancer got the wrong guy.

Come now, Nick. I can see you have no intention of practicing what you preach, but the least you could do when you start throwing feces is to choose an insult that might stick. You see, Hitler was right wing. I'm left. The excrement you're looking for is "Stalinesque", or perhaps just good old fashioned "Commie".Originally Posted by Nick Walter
