    This is so unfair. :(

    http://www.gamespot.com/gba/action/astroboy/review.html

Omega Factor was originally released six months ago in Japan, but the developers have used that time to make numerous improvements to the English-language version. Many stages have a different assortment of enemies, and formerly "empty" levels now have more enemies in them. Some enemies gained additional attacks, including most of the bosses. Graphically speaking, the number of instances of slowdown has been significantly reduced, the color schemes of some enemies have been changed to make them easier to see, and a boss health meter has been added so that players know exactly how much health a boss has left. Lastly, a third difficulty setting has been added and the old difficulty settings have been made tougher to make the English version much less of a cakewalk than the comparatively easy Japanese game. These tweaks and improvements cause Omega Factor to be that much closer to perfection.
    Lucky bastards. *shakes fists*

Do you know how annoying it is to have to buy the same game twice? BTW, this game is indeed awesome and comes highly recommended, especially for the kick-ass, unexpected ending.

That's understating how cool this game is. It's worth picking up even if you're not a beat-em-up fan and have to play on the wussy easy setting just for all the other stuff they did, namely the story that's remarkably well done for a game of this type. Even going through the extended character descriptions after i beat the game both times, i could feel the level of care that went into making the game. Like with Zero Mission, i almost felt proud to have played it.

I beat this game in Japanese and now I'm playing it through in English and there have been some crazy improvements between versions - it's definitely a stronger game now, which is amazing, because it was damn near a masterpiece before. But it is also much more difficult. I'm fine with that, but essentially, the Japanese hard mode is now the English normal mode. There's definitely still some slowdown in a few fights, though... but like tha article says, much less than in the Japanese version.

Absolutely one of the best games on the GBASP.

I played a ... 'demo', and I'm sorry to say that I'm not really impressed. It just seems like such a no-frills, run-of-the-mill shooter. Have I been spoiled by the fun gimmicks of Gunstar Heroes or am I just not up to that part yet?

I'm mystified by that response to it, so I'm not quite what sure to say. I think you're crazy, basically, but if the first few levels didn't grab you, the rest of the game probably isn't going to either.

Not many gimmicks. Just straight beat-em-up/SHMUP. All of the gameplay comes down to how simple, yet refined, it is. You have all your moves from the get-go, and it pays to go all out.

Maybe the problem is that I can't/don't know how to appreciate straight shooters on their own merits. I think I need some sort of hook or a lot of variety or something. It could also be that I'm really, really crap at this game. I must have died twenty + times on the robot ant boss. Playing on Normal.

Normal is crazy hard... it was the Japanese hard mode. I'd say play it on easy, where you have a lot more special moves to work with during a level.

Normal mode in the US version was made just for us, being inbetween the Japanese version's normal and hard modes. Easy is still easy, and the hard mode was beefed up even more.

The special moves are also what saves you from being hit a lot of the time. They either nullify shots to varying degrees or make you invincible for the duration of the attack, and fill up the very EX meter they rely on while they're at it. Dashing normally (be it the doubletap on ground or jumping while in mid air) also makes you invincible, and kicking enemies into eachother from across the screen buys a good amount of time since they can't do anything until they get back up. So like i said, it pays to go all out. On top of that, part of the fun is in going apeshit on anything and everything, which the game expertly enables you to do. Even with the normal mode's EX cap of 5, i was never without an EX attack despite coming close due to fairly heavy use of them.

Man, soooo much easier in Easy mode! But then, I also discovered where I mapped the R button. Now I can do the hyper beam attack! Most useful attack ever. The cameos are great. I heard Black Jack shows up later.
I'm going to buy this game!
