Well, he's mostly a dumbass based on my perusal, but that's a damn good criticism of The Last Samurai. Unforunately, he really ran out of steam with his 5 movies that everyone thinks are good but actually suck. Only Braveheart is really regarded as a good movie.

Well, Braveheart may have been succesful at the box office, but it was hardly criticallly acclaimed. I admit that the line 'What the hell do you know about battle scenes? You're a team manager for an insurance company, go manage something. ' made me smile though. As DaveC says he can be funny at times, but you could say the same thing about Stalin.
