Where are my squads? Did I miss the meeting where everyone voted for more micromanagement in games?
Ground Control 2? Is this game any good? I tried the multiplayer and single player demos last night and it was just meh for me. Also why do so many RTS games limit how many units can be selected at a time.

There are no squads?
What's the last RTS that didn't have squads?
No there are the standard groups, Ctrl 1-10 then press the number to bring the group up.Originally Posted by Silverlight
I think he is talking about the infantry are single man units. They really should be grouped into squads of 6-12 men and controlled as one unit. Except maybe specialist infantry like snipers.
A lot of people seem to have that sentiment (so I didn't even bother downloading them), but the full game is getting great reviews.Originally Posted by tronnc
So what's the dealio? Are the demos just poorly done or do they give you a good idea of the full/final game?
I'm talking about the original Ground Control, where vehicles and infantry were organized into squads. This made it a whole lot easier for me to manage GC's difficult battles, which often took place on multiple fronts. Control groups don't cut it, I just want to click to select logical units instead of having to remember which number key "that group over there" is bound to.Originally Posted by tronnc
I was in the betas for both GC1 & GC2, and I definitely preferred the squad arrangement as well. I posted on the beta boards about my preference for the old squad style control, but to my surprise, most of the folks there disagreed with me. The sentiment was that you end up losing some control over your units if you can't assign each individual unit to your choice of groups.
Anyway, one thing that I'm looking forward to about Relic's WH40K:Dawn of War game is that you'll be managing your space marines as squads, rather than individuals.
Kohan had great squads. Hopefully they don't go the single unit path like GC2 did.
Ugh, Kohan would be horrible without the company system. The fact that you create and move companies as a whole made the game, IMHO.
Yeah, I 100% agree. I loved Kohan because of the companies, the way they could be replenished in resupply zones, the way they built up slowly, the way that there was never the frustration of trying to micromanage 100 units, etc.Originally Posted by balut
I believe that Kohan is still using the company system for Kings of War, thankfully. Dunno about GC2 yet, but I really liked the first one.
I didn't play the first game much, so I am not really looking forward to a sequel. However, it might be worth trying for free:

KINGS OF WAR SUCKS! MORE LIKE KIINGS OF WARCRAFT!
Two possibilities here.Originally Posted by MrAngryFace

(2) You are in the beta, in which case you still don't know what you are talking about...because the game is fantastic. This is going to be even better than the original.
