    MindArk raided by Microsoft

    http://www.gamespydaily.com/news/pre...se.asp?id=1434

While the story looks like a MindArk press release published as a news story, the key issue is that 70 agents of various Swedish authorities raided the Project: Entropia developer on behalf of Microsoft. MindArk claims MS is wrong; they paid for licenses to those 600 programs they are using.

Does this spell the end for P:E?

Did Mindark buy there copies of Windows whatever? Was it because they had warez of NT/XP/Vbasic or sumtin? Sheesh. Plus I dont like the idea of this Entropia game. Sounds sleazy and stupid, buying items ala Ebay... how ghey.

Woah. Let's just pretend MindArk is telling the truth - and I'm not saying they are. Is there anything to keep Microsoft from deliberately raiding and seizing the computers of legitimate Windows users? What if they want to shut a potential competitor down for a while and plan to apologise later?

They can afford it. And their lawyers can dig through hard drives as a part of discovery, I'll bet.

I hope it's not true. That's a very creepy vision.

I call PR troll. You gotta admit, setting yourself up as "the little guy attacked by Microsoft" is a pretty sweet move. Mid-article they suddenly start bragging about how popular their website is...and then go on to state that winnings from a MS lawsuit will be given out as prizes in the game! C'mon, is Asheron's Call *really* in direct competition with Project Entropia? But hey, this guarantees to get them Slashdotted.

I'm off to stick some ads for my game on gravestones...

I have to agree on the PR troll call. I mean, the "article" never bothers to mention the 3 other companies, and make some pretty strange claims. I mean:

When MindArk a few weeks ago proclaimed Project Entropia 3D universe open for
anyone to enter from their computer, the Project Entropia site immediately became the world's largest site on the Internet even beating Yahoo, MSN, etc.
The largest site on the internet? I'm dubious. I also find it tough to gibe that comment with the one about how Microsoft is their #1 visitor.

Bleh. If I already wasn't interested in playing this train wreck of a game concept, I'm MORE not interested now.

That's probably because it *is* a press release and not a story. And here's a follow-up:
