As another poster recently said, the main problem with piracy is sites like TPB. If TPB and other torrent sites and storage sites like rapidshare did not exist then people would see absolutely no need for draconian DRM.
Most companies really don't care if people make backups of their games, or if they lend them to friends, or if they want to rip a CD to play it on their mp3 player. This isnt the big issue. these are all offshoots of the problem, which is widespread piracy over p2p where people share their music or movies or games with literally hundreds of even thousands of people.

Thats why we need to use DRM.

I'd happily vote for a world where DRM was illegal, but hosting torrents and facilitating widespread copyright infringement was punishable by severe jail terms. Everybody wins (except people like TPB and those who are determined to get everything they want for nothing).
You cant brush off questions about the legality of TPB and say "look the real issue is evil corps using DRM". They are one and the same issue.
DRM is expensive to implement, a tech support nightmare and irritating. Nobody wants it. if you can deal with p2p filesharing of copyrighted stuff, then DRM will go away. That doesnt have to be through technical means, just enforcement of laws in favour of copyright.
So what do think? is the solution to ensure people like TPB should be sued and the site removed? The reason there are so many small torrent sites is they think that because TPB is still here, they must be safe.

I genuinely think that if you want to complain about DRM, complain to TPB, They are one of the main reasons the stuff exists.
