Hey All- Sorry I'm late to the conversation (just got off a plane, pretty much, kinda tired.. so I'll try not to ramble aimlessly...).

Yes, I'm trying to re-launch CGM. Website first. Mostly because the site was neglected and some things are not working properly since the acquisition but also because I feel it's the quickest way to reconnect with the audience of the magazine.

I won't divulge the specifics of the conversations I have had with the various previous writers, simply because I'm still trying to figure out the best way to put this together. Troy is right... I'm still trying to figure this out. I will say that everyone (so far) has agreed to carry on with CGM. Sparky and Dave - I just have not reached out to you yet - and you're not the only ones - but believe me I would like you to be a part of this. So please bear with me.

I would never publish something that is not the property of CGM. Ain't right. In fact, you'll find that I will both pay for the right to publish an article, AND will give the writer the right to re-publish however she or he sees fit.

I believe this magazine belongs to the readers and the writers. I will profit share with those involved in the magazine/site. I am not doing this to get rich (I like making money - don't get me wrong - but this is a bit different to me). I am a gamer and a magazine consultant and this opportunity was too good to be true.

In fact, it was this thread (originally created back in March) which made me pursue the magazine.

For the record: I basically acquired the intellectual property and content, etc., and assumed only the subscriber-related liabilities. I am negotiating to give all subscribers a subscription to another gaming magazine because I think it's the right thing to do, in the interim. Plus, when CGM re-launches I will honor the original CGM subscription, copy-for-copy.

A little about me and my intentions (not that you care - but I think you should know):

I understand publishing. I've done it before. I believe in magazines... printed ones, that is. Although you could argue that computer/video gaming magazines are prime candidates for going digital-only, I still believe that a quality print magazine can differentiate itself from amongst the pack. I did indeed say during an interview that magazines can be launched online first with print later. The interview for that article was about an hour long and the purpose of the story was to highlight magazines with a digital approach, but I also waxed philosophic in that interview about the value of print - it just wasn't important to the interviewer's story.

Speaking of quality magazines... I would love to have Steve's steady hand at the helm. We all would. Steve and company produced a great magazine (how often can you say that?). Unfortunately, they had nothing to do with the website (which was a shame) and they simply did not have the full support of their parent company (which, of course, is obvious). I can't change the past, but I can certainly do my best going forward.

As for my work: most of my magazine consulting has been in consumer marketing (selling subs). I know how to develop magazine audiences. I love what I do. And I intend to put that background to good use. As for editing a magazine? Not me. In fact, it's the thing I know least about magazines. And that gives me an enormous respect for the people who write and edit. Enormous.

So... it's your magazine. What would you like it to be?

(Thanks for indulging me.)
