I've been wanting to play this game again for a while now, glad to see the original developers are behind this.

Wow, that's amazing. Hopefully the original creators are trying to get enough support for a sequel.

Hear hear, Lord knows Star Control 3 wasn't one.

I'm torn. On the one hand, it is pretty cool that they are updating the game, as I would certainly like to play it now that I no longer have my 386. On the other hand, I'm a strong believer in "the original" -- that any update or remake could not be as good as the original.
As far as professional developers go, I'd prefer they move on to new and exciting things. I do appreciate fan updates/emulators, though. (for example, Inform and the various Z-machine interpreters)

I'm totally thrilled about this. The 3DO version was a great improvement over the PC version (damn fine voices, smooth scaling in the ship combat, and no major gameplay changes).
It looks like it's going to be a pretty strict port and not a total remake, which I feel is a great way to go.
And they're giving it away, so you can't beat the price.
I'm just excited to play it again. My 3DO is long gone, and my SC2 disks got corrupted many years ago. SC2 is one of the greatest games of all time, vastly different and superior to the first Star Control and it's a legacy absolutely trashed by SC3.
