I suppose a lot of you had been waiting for this. Which of his books do you like the best?

Got this from Moby Lives:

A "literary storm" has broken out in Spain over claims by an investigative journalist that the country's esteemed Nobel Prize winner, Camilo Jose Cela, who died in January at age 85, used ghostwriters for most of his books, and lifted material from an unpublished novel by another writer that was submitted for the country's premier literary award, the $400,000 Planeta Prize, which Cela then won. It was "a vile trick," says journalist Tomas Garcia Vebra in a Guardian report by Giles Tremlett. "The Planeta was fixed in advance. They had their novelist, all they needed was a novel." A BBC News wire report on the furor notes that the author of that unpublished, plagiarized manuscript, Carmen Formoso Lapido, sued Cela but "the lawsuit was eventually shelved."

Our prime minister has even read one of his books ("The Story of a Man without Destiny")! I wonder if Bush has read some of his books.

I wonder if bush can read the menu at Denny's.

He has no problem with the "Breakfast Slam"s, but he has to sound out "Moons Over My Hammy", so you can see his lips move.

I'm gonna go on the record here as a proponent of the argument that Bush probably can read - but it's funny to pretend he can't! That's just some rhetorical pork attached to my main point, though, which is about to start right now: If Denny's doesn't serve another black person until the ozone layer's gone and they have to because we're all black, I'll never really be able to hate them for it because of "Moons Over My Hammy." That's such a great name. Frasier's been on TV for like ten years, and the writers still haven't come up with a single idea more entertaining than the menu at Denny's.

But...but...the other night Niles said something about how he wasn't planning to wear anything at the beach except suntan lotion, and Frasier stood up and haughtily announced, "Excuse me while I go poke out my mind's eye". HAW! HAW!

I'll have the Moons Over My Hammy, please, and a Diet Coke. Pass the ketchup.

Neither had I. Apparently he's like the Hungarian Primo Levi or Tadeusz Borowski, except that he hasn't killed himself.

Did the book reveal who killed Olof Palme? Because if not, your prime minister should stop reading so many books and get back on the case.

That case is about as dead as Levi I think. The chances of resurrection might be slightly higher perhaps.

I hope the Nobel committee gets around to recognizing Wagner James Au at some point.

I sincerely hope for your sake that this isn't some offhand dismissal of the possibility that Primo Levi could be the messiah. Because when he comes back to decide who gets to go to Heaven based on who bought The Periodic Table by clicking on q23 Amazon banner, I hope Denny Atkin is still around to help you fake that print-it-yourself online receipt.

Hmm, things look bad for wumpus if you're right...

But I must admit I was somewhat surprised to see you mention Olof Palme. Do you have any particular reason to want to see the murder solved? He made a lot of enemies, that's for sure. Was it the PKK, the South Africans or someone acting alone and for personal reasons? I fear that we may never know the truth.
