They make me, Mark Asher, feel like a giddy young schoolgirl again! Should we keep them? :?:

Or should we crush freedom of expression under our iron boots and disable them? :?

LOL!

You can turn 'em off in your profile right?

But I like 'em. :)

I think they should be disposed of. There is too much going on on these screens -- the text is what matters!!!

I'm sad that, unlike EZBoard.Com, there are no smileys with pimp hats.

You can get your own!! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/pimp.gif

Go to http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/ -- or any other site with "smilies" or "graemlins" found via a keyword search -- and post the image into your message.

Smileys can be added to a phpBB. Perhaps if you pray to St. Billy of Wilson it will come to pass.

I give that little green one a 9 because it's got such a nice smile.

My main problem with these little bastards is that they make for reading and posting at work damn near impossible. Especially when there is one of these:
      :P  :x :? :D :) :( :o    8) :( :D

Looks like the Emoticons are staying 8)

They are sort of cute

Considering all of the missed jokes that led to flame wars before, I think we need more emoticons around here. ;)

I kind of like 'em. Mostly I see a huge potential for emoticon abuse with entertaining results.

What sort of emotion would the Qt3 eyeball represent? http://www.phobe.com/qt3.gif

Sheesh, that looks like the 3:45 eyeball. I suck at making icons.

It was a great try, though, Sparky! (Actually, I think it's a great icon, too.)

Whoa, that emoticon rocks, Sparky! It *almost* makes me want to enable them in my posts.

Here's my ASCII attempt at a Qt3 icon:

Thanks. Here's one just for you...The Royal Emotibaums! Or is that the Royal Tenencons? I dunno. But I even got the falcon in there.

I'm not sure whether to be impressed, or extrememly frightened. Probably should be the latter, except that I don't know any better. :P

LOL, Sparky that was great! I will be even more impressed if Tom attempts an ASCII version. I can only hope!

Jeez-a-Pete, Sparky, that was *beautiful*! If you guys haven't scrolled to the top of the page to compare it to the banner, you need to.

With that sort of creativity, you should develop a game or something!

Hey Sparky that is sweet. How long does it take you to do something like that? Just curious.

Now that enough people have admitted liking them I guess I will throw my hat into the "keep 'em" ring. I am such a sheep.

Plus they do help keep the misunderstandings down to a minimum. My sarcasm for example does not come across well at all. For one I think I just do not explain myself thoroughly enough and (B) usually, it does not come across as funny. The latter is mostly because it is not funny in the first place.

I think emoticons are the root of all evil and people don't communicate as effectively when given the emoticon option.

Obviously fire is the necromancer responsible for the undead infestations around here lately.

For you? Of course!

Or is that not clever innuendo? I do not own a mule. I have dessert, though.
