So both these games are coming out on 3/16. What would you choose between the two?!?

Since there's already Eve of Destruction... getting UT2k4 is a no brainer.

For me its no contest BF Vietnam. I tried the UT 2004 demo but just couldn't get into it. I used to love UT back in the day but I think that I've moved passed that and can't go back anymore.

The real challenge will be BF Desert Combat vs BF Vietnam. Right now DC is my main multiplayer game, and I'm not sure that Vietnam will be better. At least I know that Dice has signed on the devs of DC for something. (hoping its an official DC mod for BF Vietnam).

The wimp-out answer: Already pre-ordered both.

Other than the fact that they have both have vehicles, the speed differences in gameplay is enough to make them completely different experiences.

Can't vote, no option for "Both".

Ut2004 is a poor man's Planetside and a crappy one at that.

So it's PS and BFNam for me.

I do hope we get a demo for BF:V. I'm thinking I'll probably buy it, but I know that I for sure won't buy UT2k4.

Me, too. They are very different games, and relatively cheap on pre-orders. Amazon had BF:V in the last Friday Sale for $35, free shipping.

If I had to pick one, I'll take UT2004. I love the fast pace.

Seconded!

I also realized that not everyone acts like a suicidal lemming like me. cip manages to stay alive for a long time, because he's not a crazy maniac that goes running down the back door screaming "DIEEEEEEE!" like I do.

I'm not trying to start a PS v. UT2004 fight, there's room on my harddrive for both if Sony ever decides to drop the price. Anyway, if you like being a skirmisher/assaulter type player, I thought you would like the shorter respawn times in a game like UT2004. That's the reason I prefer Day of Defeat to Counter-strike: lower death penalties for us assaulter-types that will sacrifice ourselves to break a defending position.

I'm not trying to support a PS v. UT2004 fight but... :P

I won't speak for Xpav but there's lots of other stuff you can do too other than die with the zerg. There is more meaningful "downtime" like planning, repairing, hacking, setting up defenses, and yes, there are even certain times for more "tactical" assaults where your survival rate is much higher than it is during a zerg siege.

It's these times (to me) where it's unlike UT2004 where you're pretty much zergin 99% of the time you're playin. I'm getting old--I like the slow parts too. ;)

Both, and maybe Planetside again after I build my new machine this month. I figure after half a year or so the bugs that were so annoying to me before might have been taken care of by now.

UT2k4 for me. For vague reasons, I still feel a little weird playing a game set in Vietnam.

If I had money I'd preorder UT2K4 Special Edition on DVD, so I can get the free Logitech headset ($20 value) and the rebate with it brings the total price down to like $29.99 with a coupon. Look on Anandtech Hot Deals or your favorite deal site for the info. Too bad I'm broke :(

Union Carbide told me that BF:V is leet, so I'm curious to see it in action. I'll probably wait until it comes out to get hyped about it, since I burned out on BF1942 so quickly (I hated the morons on the net who played it).

I'll be getting UT2004. Already have a private server with friends onhand prepped to make the switch. :)

BF: Vietnam has stirred absolutely zero interest in me. When I played BF 1942 I enjoyed the slower pace. BF: Vietnam seems like a faster version set in the world's most spartan jungles.

You poor bastard. Don't you know that no crap server has ever lasted past the demo?

Yeah, right down to the lack of a $12 monthly tax...

UT2004 for me. Already pre-ordered. Though it is likely that I will get BF:V at some point. Probably right after someone fixes the main guns on the tanks. If one thing drove me away from vanilla BF it was the mortar like trajectory of the tank guns.

I know all too well. It's my own server (actually, we'll have two) and the people I'll be playing with are fellow clanmates (although we're not really a clan as such anymore). At the very least I'll continue playing in our weekly Sunday night games. We'll be playing game #113 in UT2003 this Sunday.

I find it difficult to play on pub servers now.

Just play Desert Combat then, the tanks guns fire much better.

Funny, that's actually why I quit playing DC. I think the weapons have way too much range, making for too many mystery deaths and huge spawnpoint slaughters.

I play quite a bit of DC and EoD. Both nice mods for BF. As of late I find myself wanting something a bit more......unreal(no pun intended)to play. I guess the glut of military based shooters has finally gotten to me.

I'm still waiting for the next Forgotten Hope mod to be released in the next two weeks. I'll be getting BF:V though, if only to play mods that cross over onto its' engine. UT2004 was initially fun because of the novelty, but its frenetic pace makes me feel like I'm trapped in a pinball machine. I must be getting old.

Yeah I am much the same. I enjoyed the original UT but got sick of the hyper-gameplay. Neither UT2/3/4 or Quake 3 appeal to me anymore.

I voted for BF:V because I think the jungle setting will be very cool and while I haven't played the UT2k4 demo the description of it as a "poor man's Planetside" doesn't really excite me to try it.
