Does anyone else here think that the vehicle portion of UT2004's demo blows? I mean, the second you get in one, you become a gigantic bullseye for all who oppose you. Not to mention how hard it is to fly, I prefer UT2003 anyday.

I pretty much just use the Manta for fast transport and taking down a node when there aren't a lot of people around it. Yet since it's very fast and stays on the ground, it's the most difficult to lock on with the AVRIL. The gun in the back of the truck also packs quite a punch.

How hard it is to fly? You push jup to go up, and that's about.

I actually find the vehicles extremely easy to control. If your looking for something that can take a bit of punishment before dying, try the tank or humvee thingie.

Even here in mainland China where we don't have access to all the benefits of western technology we still know that vehicles were a fantastic addition to UT and astrology is total garbage!

HAHAHAHAH!

I've been playing UT pretty hard, after fighting the urge to not get it. Sure - the vehicles aren't like BF1942 and simple - but then again they aren't exactly 'standard' are they?

That's half the point. Onslaught is just one giant vehicle deathmatch with accompanied objectives.

If you're dying too much, its usually a not-so-subtle hint to change your strategy. Instead of running out on your own, hook up with teammates. If someone is going to die, it should be the other team when they're outnumbered and outmatched.

I've seen some pretty amazing teamwork on a few pubbie servers lately, involving four man tank crews (two inside, two outside repairing with link guns and additional defense) that have caused far more chaos than those four could on foot.

Yeah, the vehicles are the best part! I wouldn't play this game for 2 seconds if it wasn't for the vehicles because the hand to hand combat is a little silly with all the jumping and hopping and somersaulting. The vehicles are all fun to play for one reason or another (I love the barbwire lasso on the buggy), and even if you are blown up rather quickly there are always more vehicles spawning somewhere.

Hey, don't jump down my neck, all I said was I thought that the vehicle portion needed to be worked out a little better, you act like I cursed your family...

I never said I was dying, I said that the vehicles sucked.

Suck at what? I get most of my kills when using the vehicles. Now, having said that, I freely admit that I suck at UT04, but it's still fun (sorry Tom).

Armor gets smeared too quickly, and the weapons don't do enough damage, but I must admit, I never fail to chuckle whenever the announcer says "Road Kill!" or "Road Rage!" Lol, that darn guy...

Or "Pancake!" I love that one.

As the guy says when you go to pick the HARD boats in Hydro Thunder...

YOU'RE CRAZY!

The vehicles in UT2004 rule. The Manta especially is super useful in the hands of the skilled player. You do know that you hit the right mouse button to make the fans push you down, right? That's how guys are running you over and killing you regularly in one of those.

Unless you're in the Tank or Raptor, you should always be trying to run people over. In the tank, you should be mowing folks down with the main gun. I usually get at least a Killing Spree in the tank and usually more. Be smarter about holding your fire for a good shot. Don't drive right into a mess of people, make them shoot at you from long range. Watch the mountains for guys with AVRiLs. It's really not hard at all.

If I'm NOT in a vehicle or a stationary gun, I'm usually getting mowed down. Maybe it's just you?

EDIT! My favorite, by far, is VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER.

Always fun to do: Put a good number of spider mines on your Manta or Scorpion and then drive around looking for a large group of enemy. Stop long enough for your mines to get off and cause a little chaos, while you continue on in the vehicle finishing off survivors.

Also: Hate having Mantas running you over? Next time you see one heading right for you, pull out the shock rifle and alt-fire. The plasma ball will knock them off course, usually confusing the driver long enough for you to launch a few more balls in their direction. Works almost as well on the Scorpion.

Needed to be worked out a little better? You said "BLOWS"! First you insult my ancestors and now this revisionist history?!?! I jump on your neck all I like! With a vehicle!

Turning with the handbrake could be a lot better. As it is, it seems like you either pull a 180 or nothing.

Which button is the handbrake?

I thought it was space, or jump. That might explain something.

I noticed that myself. I'd be willing to bet they're crossover players from C&C: Renegade.

Speaking of Renegade, I hope EA will consider resurrecting the sequel now that FPS / Vehicular MP is in great demand. A Renegade-styled game using the C&C: Generals IP would make me a happy man.
