5 multiplayer, 5 singleplayer PC games.
Keep in mind that it's done... but I'm curious if anyone will guess them. I'm sure no one will guess #1 on singleplayer.
Oh actually, I have two ties. Two games for #5 multiplayer and two for #2 singleplayer...

I won't even try to guess. :) When will it be posted?

Big Mutha Truckers, duh.

The only thing I'll guess is that each game gets its own page and I have to click through about 22 pages to see the entire list.

I think it would be more fun to guess what is at the bottom of the next to last page before getting to number one:
1) And the winner is.....
2) Your wait is finally over.....
3) The one the world has been waiting for....
4) Heeeeeere's Johnny
5) If you have made it this far, what's one more click

Now are these actual PC games, or are they console games under the obvious guise of a PC game?

Nope. The transition text is "You'll never guess number one". :p

Oh, I'm sorry, were you looking for some discussion about your mysterious list or a bunch of snotty comments from people with nothing better to do on a Saturday morning.

How could I forget, "You'll never guess....."

Tyler, I posted a topic about a top 10 list here, on QT3. I never come here when I want serious discussion. QT3 has long since not been a place for serious, and instead every thread generates into "witty" sarcastic remarks, or hyperboles, exaggerations, panic-mongering and flame wars.

And lord knows Firingsquad's news comments from its readers are a font of elucidated wisdom.
Sorry, I'm really not trying to be a dick but given the tone of your own site's readership I don't think you should be getting too snippy with that of others.

I think Jakub feels bitter about losing that argument defending his intern's lousy review of Dom2. Or something.

I never said FS news comment posters are a "font of elucidated wisdom", did I?

Well, if you'd be so good as to let us know where the "serious" discussion is taking place, all us former usenetters can move on over and ruin things there, too, Jakub. :P (Did Kitsune loan you his pee pee cup or something?)

Kitsune is definitely a dude, albeit one who looks about sixteen. However, in ciparis' defense, he's awfully pretty for a dude. I remember at one point Kitsune posted a picture of himself. Before I knew what I was looking at, my first reaction was 'Whoa, who's the hot Japanese chick?'.
ObOnTopicRef: My guess for Jakub's #1 game is Viktoria: Another Episode of Paradox's Tedious Historical Management Stuff with a Colorful Map.

No kidding? Oops :) Sorry Kitsune... hehe.
His careful syntax (and name... not that I know much about them) fooled me.

Seriously Asher, what an idiot you look like now. I mean, if you had been making a joke about how FS has all these extra pages to click through between article pages, that would have been funny, and now Jakub would look like an idiot. But seriously. Do the math, man.

Well, if anybody actually cares about the original topic anymore, the number 1 singleplayer game is SimCity.
Hey Tom, it's ok to like Kitsune. You're an actor.

There really is no place I go for serious discussion any more. The smaller forums tend to have very few experienced members, and the larger ones can't help but degenerate into sarcastic and "witty" comments.
I would have guessed Tetris.

Is this list 'top ten of 2003' or 'top ten ever'? Meaning the original SimCity or SimCity 4?
Because no way the original SimCity beats SimCity 2000.
EDIT:
Read the article. Top ten ever. I renew my objection.
Sure, SimCity was the more influential game, seeing as how it invented a company and a genre. But SimCity 2000 was the better game.

SimCity at the top spot makes me sad. I agree with all your other choices except for that one. I would have separated Civ and X-Com, and put Civ on top. I just never could get into any of those sim games.

And there is only one game that has a more chilling ending than Kerrigan, the Zerg Queen, coming out on top in the end.
Which game is that?

Good list. Wing Commander 1 was my first love on the PC too and I have to agree that Freespace 2 is the pinnacle of the space sim genre. Nice to see Quake 1 in its position since that game opened several doors for me: multiplay with friends, shooters, and 3D graphics cards. Quake 1 was a true watershed moment in gaming.
My top five singleplayer list would probably read:
1) Terra Nova: SFC
2) System Shock 1
3) Torment
4) Myth 1
5) Baldur's Gate 2

For me the space sim genre would go
1. Independence War
2. Tie Fighter
3. Freespace 2.
Maybe its just me. But anyway Simcity?!?
As BobJustBob said, "no way the original SimCity beats SimCity 2000."

I grant you that, gladly. SimCity 2000 is arguably the best of the Sim games. The classic version's influence though, was so much broader, I had to give it the nod.
I'm going to find my SC2K disc right now, actually.

Reading your list I realise how little interest I have in competitive multiplayer games. I don't really care for any of the games listed there. The singleplayer games though, you have fine taste, what more can I say?
Must re-install Freespace 2, and finally get around to finishing XCOM. Torment, well words can't express my love for that game, and Civ was all I played for months back when I was 14. Sim City, while a game I spent far too much time on, doesn't really bag the top spot for me though. Sim City is too cold, it has no personality, the fact that it is just a blank slate ultimately means that there is nothing there that you can truly love.
